@Jmh2o: @Jérémy-Günther-Heinz Jähnick: Hi! I have stated in the edit summary that I am aware of the links on the left side of the page. They are not sufficient for the purpose of what I am trying to here: allow text searching of the said names/language text to the correct category, and I must also add that having the name stated as such makes it easy for readers who want to quickly identify the page in their native languages to do so; they may not pay attention to the small infobox to the right; they may want to see what's dead ahead of them.

I have added these kinds of links to multiple articles on the Commons, in other words making it a practice throughout the Commons. It may be necessary to have further discussion about this.

I believe there is already a commons discussion page about this kind of matter. I will search the archives and look for the page soon. WhisperToMe (talk) 10:11, 31 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I found Commons:Administrators'_noticeboard/User_problems/Archive_54#Handling_of_IWL_links back from 2015. I have been doing this for years, and based on this discussion I believe adding the translated names in this way is justified. I had stated in the page "These are more than "just links" - they are intentionally placed to make it easier for non-English speaking people to search for a topic. For example if a Chinese person writes 吉隆坡 she/he should expect to get the gallery page for Kuala Lumpur show up in the search results." - I also cited Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 as an example of how this text should ultimately look like, and see this as a model for what Commons category and image pages should look like. I think @WhisperToMe: your work should have a bigger impact if you will report your efforts on Wikidata by adding translations in language you are able to work. For example first properties used, then items you find following your navigation. If you want, I can give you some examples. Jérémy-Günther-Heinz Jähnick (talk) 15:17, 31 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Jérémy-Günther-Heinz Jähnick: I don't go on Wikidata as much, even though I have linked articles together and worked on some entries. If you can link me to the particular project/effort, that would be great! I am aware that some "category names" are becoming automated over at Wikidata. I think it would be helpful if there was an automated "Airlinename Flight Flightnumber" template that displays explanations/links in multiple languages and brings up the category if someone searches for it in multiple languages. I do feel like some of the manual stuff lays the groundwork for the more automated templates that can come later, as they remind readers that there should be multilingual explanations visible.
In addition not everything has been completely automated yet; while setting the language to Japanese does show the Japanese article title, the description is still in English (setting it to Indonesian does display an Indonesian description). On top of that, if I search "ライオン・エア610便墜落事故" and check the category box, it gives me no results. The purpose of me adding the text was so the category would show up if you type the name in that language in the category search. Currently "Lion Air Penerbangan 610" gives no results, and that's the language many people would use to search for this (Indonesian).

For searches, I have no responses, I am not a pro in this domain.
For informations, I verify in indonesian the category and the item. We start to have numerous translations in this language, but sometime the passage of a Wikipedian could be a good thing. If you add a translation at an item, its description will be available for each of its uses, forever. Jérémy-Günther-Heinz Jähnick (talk) 17:13, 31 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It's great that there's a Wikidata item where. However for now the Wikidata content doesn't appear within the Wikimedia Commons internal search engine. I wanted to make sure this content also appears on the internal Wikimedia Commons search engine too. WhisperToMe (talk) 03:20, 1 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
