Waitangi Solidarity Hīkoi 2024 is a category for the protest and marches (hīkoi) held in 2024 to upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi. It was held on 6 February 2024 in Wellington.

This is from the promotions: Waitangi Solidarity Hīkoi (Te Whanganui-A-Tara/Wellington) WHEN: Tuesday, 6 February 10:30am WHERE: Pukeahu Memorial (Buckle Street) hīkoi to Waitangi Park

Tangata Tiriti are invited to stand in solidarity with Tangata Whenua on Waitangi day this year. Let us demonstrate that we will work to stop any rolling back of Māori rights and progress. Let’s stand alongside Tangata Whenua against any attempts to undermine Tino Rangatiratanga and the positive steps we have made towards equity and justice in Aotearoa NZ. We call on all allies to take action this year, and to join with us in showing up as strong Tangata Tiriti at a time when the foundations of Te Tiriti are under threat.

We will gather under Te Kahu o Te Raukura, the cloak of aroha and peace laid down by Mana Whenua, at Pukeahu National War memorial on Waitangi Day at 10:30am. This is the site of the Mt Cook Barracks, where Māori prisoners taken from Parihaka were interned after the Crown invasion of the peace settlement in 1881. Following ngā kaikōrero, we will hīkoi to Waitangi Park for the pōwhiri to tautoko Mana Whenua for the start of the Waitangi Day commemorations and concert at noon.

Bring We encourage you to bring flags, banners and signs that promote a strong peaceful kaupapa, sunblock, water and of course, family and friends. This is a family-friendly event.

Covid-19 and illness We encourage precautions against the spread of Covid-19 including mask wearing, and ask that you please stay home if you feel unwell.

Accessibility Pukeahu War Memorial Park is in between Taranaki and Tory Streets, on Buckle Street (above Arras Tunnel). Access to the gathering site is a slight uphill (no steps) on the Taranaki side, and flat from the Tory Street side. The Hīkoi will walk at gentle pace on a route that is a very slight downhill then flat. There are no steps. It is approximately 1.5km.
