Unicode CJK radicals for Chinese Hanzi, Japanese Kanji, Korean Hanja and Vietnamese Chữ Nôm characters, with 0 additional strokes.
[Unified or compatibliity ideographic characters composed with additional strokes and variants are in categorized in their UCS-encoding blocks listed in CJK Ideographs, and in subcategories for their radicals.]

The characters below, ordered by number of strokes, Kangxi radical index (3 digits displayed above letters), and UCS-encoded variant, are from these UCS blocks (color-coded above the displayed code point):

  • U+2F00-2FDF Kangxi Radicals (distinctive symbols encoded for the 214 basic radicals, used for indexing or describing the basic composition of CJK ideographs),
  • U+2E80-2EFF CJK Radicals Supplement (distinctive symbols encoded for 115 additional variants of Kangxi radicals, used to improve the indexing of CJK ideographs and the basic description of their composition),
  • U+4E00-9FFF CJK Unified Ideographs (only the ideographs used as references for Kangxi radicals and for most of their supplemental variants),
  • U+3400-4DBF CJK Unified Ideographs Extension A (only the ideographs used as references for a few supplemental variants of radicals), and
  • U+F900-FAFF CJK Compatibility Ideographs (only the variants of ideographs used as references for radicals).
Note that twelve characters (U+FA0E, U+FA0F, U+FA11, U+FA13, U+FA14, U+FA1F, U+FA21, U+FA23, U+FA24, and U+FA27 through U+FA29, none of them representing CJK radicals), that were imported in the UCS from the legacy IBM 32 character set and initially encoded in this block before Unicode 2.0, lack a canonical Decomposition_Mapping value in UnicodeData.txt, and so are not actually CJK Compatibility Ideographs: these twelve characters are CJK Unified Ideographs; all other code points in this block were encoded in Unicode 1.1.5 only for round-trip compatibility with documents and applications using legacy encoding standards (existing before the creation of the UCS defined by ISO/IEC 10646 and synchronized with The Unicode® Standard since version 2.0) and not supporting the UCS: these Compatibility Ideographs are canonically equivalent to CJK Unified Ideographs and should no longer be used in documents or applications not explicitly requiring these legacy standards.
Note also that additional compatibility ideograph blocks will not be encoded in the future (if needed, variation sequences can be added and standardized in future versions of Unicode to any existing or future unified ideograph). As the two existing CJK Unified Ideographs‎ blocks in the BMP are fully allocated, newer CJK Unified Ideograph Extension blocks will now be allocated in ideographic supplementary planes.

Unicode CJK radicals are also used in “ideographic description strings” to describe more precisely the composition of CJK unified ideographs or of their more specific variants, after notational symbols encoded in Unicode 2FF0-2FFF Ideographic Description Characters, and along with other symbols for non-radical strokes encoded in Unicode 31C0-31EF CJK Strokes or with additional ideographs present in the composition.

The table below should render best with characters in Traditional Chinese (Kangxi) Serif style (you may want install the “Noto Serif TC” font on your system to render them accordingly). But note that characters encoded in the UCS are unifying multiple modern variants (for Traditional or Simplified Chinese, Traditional or Simplified Kanji, Korean Hanja, and Chữ Nôm), and that some of these variants may render with more or less strokes than those indicated (which are accurate only for the Kangxi style). The modern usage of these styles also includes Sans-Serif and hand-drawn variants (also unified in the UCS) with their glyphs sorted in CJK character categories, along with images showing their stroke order. Other historic styles (e.g. for Seal, Big Seal, Oracle, or Bronze scripts, sometimes with important differences, not unified in the UCS and where the Kangxi stroke count may not be relevant) may also be found in CJK character categories (but these historic styles could be recategorised later, notably if they get encoded distinctly in the UCS). Characters for other scripts more or less derived from CJK ideographs and that were encoded distinctly in the UCS (e.g. Japanese Kanas, Chinese Bopomofo and Korean Hangul) should be categorized separately.
