The Tasuafa is a historical gold weight of the Akan in Ghana and the Ivory Coast for the weighing of gold dust.
Strictly speaking, the name "Tasuafa" (= ½ Tasua) is misleading because of the unclear definition of a Tasua.
The name "Pereguanfa ne osuafa" would be more to the point because ½ Pereguan + ½ Sua = 0.5 * 70.4 g + 0.5 * 17,6 g = 44.0 g. (Amounts according to Garrard)
The prefix "o-" is meaning the singular article.
Theoretical weight:
- - 43.88 g (Abel for 200 Taku)
- - 43.89 g (Abel for 300 Ba)
- - 44.2 g (Garrard for 170 Taku)
Real weight:
- - 44.4 g (Inventory number MHNT.ETH.2010.25.027 in the "Muséum de Toulouse") (Brass scorpion figure)
- - 44.5 g (Inventory number MHNT.ETH.2010.25.029 in the "Muséum de Toulouse") (Brass figure of a mask representing a bovid)
- - 45,2 g (Inventory number MHNT.ETH.2010.25.079 in the "Muséum de Toulouse") (Brass figure of an antelope with a human hand in its mouth)
Value equivalents:
- 1 Tasuafa = 200 Taku = 300 Ba (Abel)
- 1 Tasuafa = 170 Taku (Garrard)
- 240 Taku = 40 Ackies (Abel)
- 120 Taku = 1 Ounce (Garrard)
- (1 Ounce = 16 Ackies (European trade))
