Sydney John Hayes (Marylebone 1858 – London 1923) was an English artist who produced animal and rural paintings, including some paintings for postcard companies. Hayes attended the Royal Academy and won two silver medals in 1879. (source: The Art Journal, Internet Archive.) His age on his death certificate is probably incorrect. His elder brothers John P. Hayes and Henry E. Hayes were also artists, painters etc. (source: 1901 Census). His father John W. Hayes (b. Middlesex c.1821) was a portrait painter. (Source: 1861 Census).
