The SJM Building at 130 West 30th Street, between the Avenue of the Americas (Sixth Avenue) and Seventh Avenue in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City, which was built for Salomon J. Manne, a fur trader who had started as a worker. The loft building was designed by noted architect Cass Gilbert, and was constructed in 1927-1928, in what is sometimes called "Assyrian Revival" style. "Figures in Mesopotamian friezes race around the walls of the building at each setback. And, over the two entrances, stylized symmetrical lions glare in polychromed terra-cotta bas-relief. (White, Norval and Willensky, Elliot. AIA Guide to NYC (4th ed.) 2000.) The building was designated a New York City landmark in 2000.
