English: Polje, ‘field’ in slavik languages. It is a geological basin on a plateau, totally surrounded by mountains. There is usually no natural surface outlet. The term is ‘field’ in slavik languages. When precipitation is exceptional, the soil may become wet. The drainage is by ponors (also sinkhole/Schluckloch/καταβόθρα), which drain the water through subsurface ways. If floods are very high, and the capacity of ponors is insufficient or they are blocked, a temporary lake may appear.
Deutsch: Polje (‚Feld‘ in slawischen Sprachen). Polje ist ein geologisches Becken in einer Hochebene, die allseitig von Bergen umschlossen ist. Es gibt meistens keinen natürlichen oberirdischen Wasser-Abfluss. Bei außergewöhnlich viel Niederschlag wird der Boden nass. Der Abfluss erfolgt über Ponore (auch sinkhole/Schluckloch/καταβόθρα). Bei hohem Wasseraufkommen bildet sich ein temporärer See, wenn die Kapazität der Ponore nicht ausreicht oder diese verstopft sind.

Lorsque les precipitations sont exceptionelles, le sol devient humide. Ponors drainent l’eau par des voies suouterraines. Si les inundations sont fortes, et si la capacité des ponors est insuffisante ou si ells sont bloquées, il’y un lac temporaire.
Ελληνικά: Οροπέδιο Καθε 4-5 χρονια, οταν οι μεγαλες ποσοτητες νερου συσσωρευτηκαν η μπλοκαριστηκαν, υπηρχε κατακρατηση νερου. Οταν η ποσοτητα του νερου, ηταν πολυ μεγαλη, διμιουργηθηκαν λιμνες.
Italiano: Campo carsico, pianoro carsico o polje, letteralmente campo nelle lingue slave. Bacino geologico pianeggiante delimitato da montagne, che normalmente non ha una via d'uscita superficiale. Il drenaggio dell'acqua avviene tramite doline carsiche (sinkhole) al di sotto della superficie del terreno; se le precipitazioni sono abbondanti la loro capacità di smaltimento delle acque si può esaurire, con la formazione di un lago temporaneo.
