English: A longcase clock, commonly called a grandfather clock, was placed in the Oval Office by President Lyndon Johnson in the mid-1960s. Johnson's successor, President Richard Nixon, had that clock removed. Nixon's successor, President Gerald Ford, placed a different longcase clock – built in Boston by John and Thomas Seymour, c. 1795-1805 – in the Oval Office, where it has remained since the mid-1970s.
