English: Mountain Gate is the southernmost portal of the reconstructed Shaolin Monastery enclosure. Some call it the Shanmen Gate. Shanmen is any gate of a specific, tripartite originally religious gate. Centered, the gate is flanked by two smaller gates. Buildings flank them; on the west, the Pharmacy. The two round windows and the square door characterize the gate. Its passage goes through, but there are two works of art in glass cases within. The Maitriya Buddha, a corpulent, laughing, propitious stock type can be seen through the door. The other, a Skanda, is out of sight. This is the main entrance to the temple.

Before the gate is an open wooded terrace bordered on the south by the Shaoyang River, which is the border of the scenic spot. From the gate to the river is a walkway. A bridge over the intermittent stream accesses the commercial road Z011 from the north. On the monastery side is a trail coming from the main gate of the scenic spot through the Kung Fu school and heading up into the mountains. On the terrace the gate is flanked by two stone lions and two flagpoles. Further south are two heritage stone gates unrelated to any modern entry. They are aligned perpendicular to the gate, so that any photograph through them misses the gate.
