Português: Entre as medidas tomadas para a organização do Arquivo Real, conta-se a elaboração das cópias dos documentos, considerados então mais importantes, numa colecção intitulada Leitura Nova, ordenada por D. Manuel I, e que teve início em 1504, com o fim de preservar os documentos cujo suporte estava demasiado danificado, ou cuja leitura já não era acessível.
English: Among the measures taken to organise the Royal Archive, King Manuel I of Portugal ordered that all of the most important documents should be copied, in what became a collection of illuminated manuscripts titled "Leitura Nova" (New Literature, in free translation), begun in 1504. This measure was taken to preserve damaged original manuscripts, or illegible ones.
