English: Historical images related to destruction of Ivan the Great belfry by retreating French Army and subsequent rebuilding. The main tower survived explosion of October 11, 1812; adjacent belfry completely collapsed. Rebuilding was assigned to Giovanni (Ivan Dementyevich) Gilardi, who based his draft on pre-war studies of Ivan Yegotov (d. 1815). The belfry was substantially completed by the end of 1815.
