Insularium Illustratum Henrici Martelli Germani
Insularium was originally based on the Liber insularum Archipelagi of Cristoforo Buondelmonti. Martellus included maps and text from his own Cosmographia. In 1490 he collaborated with Francesco Rosselli to produce a color world map on vellum from a copper engraving, which replaced the map in the Insularium. It is believed to have been based on a map made at Lisbon by Bartolomew Columbus and to be the map carried by Christopher Columbus in 1492. Martin Behaim is believed to have based his globe of 1492 on it. A wall copy is owned by Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, Yale University. Editions of the Insularium are: British Library, Add MS. 15760, fols. 68~69r, London, England (date of edition 1489); Biblioteca Medicea Laurenziana, Florence; MS Plut. 29.25, cc. fols. 66v-67r; Leiden University Library, MS Voss.Lat.F23, fols. 65v-66r. For BL Add.15760:

1823: given to British Museum (King's Library) by George IV of the United Kingdom

1973: transferred to British Library
