English: The Gate of St. Romanus (Porta Agiou Rōmanou), named so after a nearby church, is called Topkapı, the "Cannon Gate" today, because of the great cannon (the "Basilic") that was placed opposite it during the last siege of Constantinople. Emperor Constantine XI established his command here, at the central and most threatened stretch of the walls.
