Photographs released by the Imperial War Museums on the "IWM Collections" flickrstream are part of Flickr Commons on a no copyright known release. The photographs uploaded here are from the First World War period, promoted as "The Bond of Sacrifice", and are a archive of photographs collected by the IWM from 1917 through to 1920, which have recently been chosen for release on Flickr for the benefit of public knowledge. The IWM was created and funded under direction of the War Cabinet in 1917 and in 1920 was established by an Act of Parliament (Imperial War Museum Act 1920). Though the IWM has released these with a "IWM Non-Commercial Licence", they can be released on Wikimedia Commons under a {{PD-UKGov}} licence.

In situations where photographs might appear to have been later donated to the Imperial War Museums by the subject or the family of the subject, these may have been listed incorrectly with the donor as the author. These may be licensed under the alternative of {{PD-anon-70}}.
