English: Camp Douglas in Chicago was the largest Union Army camp in Illinois where over 30 units were trained. In 1862, the west part was turned into a prison camp that altogether housed about 18,000 Confederate prisoners throughout the Civil War; 12,000 at one time in December, 1864. Named after Stephen A. Douglas.
