About: The collective 1/4-ton, 4x4, Bantam Reconnaissance Cars (BRC's), or 'jeeps', built by American Bantam in 1940 and 1941.

To be differentiated are:

  • the 1940 Bantam BRC pilot car #1, dubbed 'Blitz-Buggy' (identified by bulbous round hood and front fenders, scalloped side entry cutouts)
  • the next 69/70 of 1940 Bantam BRC Mk. II prototypes, that became known as 'BRC 60' models (Now with flat, rectangular front fenders + other changes)
  • eight units were required to be built with four-wheel steering in addition to 4WD
  • Some 2700 pre-production, pre-standardized, 1941 built jeeps, that became known as 'BRC 40' models (differing from 1940 by flat, wide hood and straight instead of round front grille)
  • A further few 1941 test-units were built in conjunction with Checker Motors Corporation, eyeing possible cooperation between Bantam and Checker. In case either of them would win the primary manufacturing contract, by low bid and other factors, there was a contract between them, that would allow the other to manufacture any over-capacity demand that might arise.
