English: The Andrews Raiders was a group of 22 volunteer from Ohio infantry regiments with a railroad background and one civilian, a civilian scout and part-time spy James J. Andrews who led the raiders. On April 12, 1862, they commandeered a train in northern Georgia and took it north toward Chattanooga, doing as much damage as possible to vital rail lines. The first Medals of Honor were awarded to service members who took part in the raid, known as the Great Locomotive Chase.
