The 1962 Allentown Bicentennial celebration was a series of public events commemorating the 200th anniversary of the founding of the city by Judge James Allen. Judge Allen was a friend of the Penn family, the founders of Pennsylvania, and he was granted a tract of land in which he started the settlement of Northampton Towne in 1762.

Events started about the beginning of May 1962 and reached a high point with a massive 6 1/2 hour parade during Memorial Day weekend which over 20,000 participants. Over 175,000 people attended and it was televised by Philadelphia channel 6, WFIL-TV. By June, the events had wound down and the Bicentennial Headquarters store, in which all manner of souvenirs were sold, closed up by the end of the month.
