License restrictions listed on Smithsonian are additive

[edit]

The Smithsonian makes content available from many different copyright owners. The Smithsonian website simplifies licensing by providing a non-commercial license for all content. This license is additive, not subtractive. When the work is original to a Smithsonian employee, that work irrevocably exists in the public domain.

This template should be used for content original to a Smithsonian employee created in their duties for the government. Prior discussions have set the precedent that public domain content should not be removed based on the Smithsonian's non-commercial clause. --Elephanthunter (talk) 19:28, 23 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
