@Rhododendrites I think so far your discussion just confirms to me that Wikipedians don't think they are a free content project. I think your initial post was a bit TLDR and unfair on Diliff. A genuine copyright troll creates the images with that licence in order to make money. There's no evidence at all that Diliff did that and I knew him when he was active creating the photos. Diliff was very generous with this knowledge and helped a lot of Commoners improve their photography. It also is unfair to describe this as a "business model" for Diliff (though it is for Pixy). In terms of teaching people a lesson, Diliff's view would appear to be that perhaps folk will learn to attribute CC images properly. We've created a monster in a way, with a licence that is written such that small mistakes can expose one to big bills, and Wikipedia frankly hasn't given a damn about attributing images the way we'd expect other sites to. Diliff's behaviour is a symptom of a mess Wikipedia created. -- Colin (talk) 19:30, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
