Here's the abbreviation key. Of course you'll already understand them all, but I thought I'd best give you a full list so you can instruct the bot properly, lest it start putting things into "Branta canadensis in Czech R" or "Branta canadensis in SK". Womens memorial march

Hi Riley,

I noticed you just deleted File:Womens memorial march-cropped.jpg. I was notified that this picture was a speedy deletion candidate just three hours ago, with the rationale "Copyright violation: http://www.kairoscanada.org/what-we-do/gender-justice/annual-womens-memorial-march". This picture is a modified (cropped & retouched) version of File:Womens memorial march.jpg which, according to that file's description, was taken from a CC-licensed picture on Flickr.

If my memory serves me, that link on Flickr is no longer working but the author wa "Chris Bizzy." There is no evidence that Kairos Canada rather than Chris Bizzy is in fact the photographer. Knowing the mandate of Kairos Canada, it is far more likely that they took the image from Commons or Flickr. Thanks for the quick emil response. The given source of File:Womens memorial march.jpg is http://www.flickr.com/photos/nofutureface/4358431092/in/photostream/ , which is indeed a dead link and the "nofutureface" user appears to have taken down his/her account. I did a Google search for "Chris Bizzy Vancouver" and there is plenty of evidence that during the time Chris Bizzy's Flickr account was up, other reputable websites used his/her images from the same event or neighbourhood, at least one explicitly mentioning CC licensing:

There's strong evidence that a Chris Bizzy operated the "nofutureface" Flickr account, licensed many pictures under CC, and took pictures from this event and neighbourhood. IMHO, this evidence makes the uploader's description credible. (I don't know why this picture wasn't reviewed by an administrator when it was first uploaded; if my memory is correct we have had automated Flickr licensing reviewing for many years and this photo was uploaded at least two years ago.) Hi Riley. Great to see you active with the bit right out of the gate. When you have the time, can you remove these users from the AWB checkpage: Achim55, Revent, Zhuyifei1999 (admins), Reguyla (globally locked account), and can you remove Wilfredor and replace it with The Photographer (he changed names a while ago)? Strange closure

Recent changes

• Wikiversities now have better access to Wikidata. They can use data from any page on Wikidata on any page on Wikiversity. This happened on May 3. [2]
• You can use Wikipedia GapFinder to find missing articles between languages. [3]
• Users are invited to try Cross-wiki Notifications on all wikis. This is the last test session before the release by default, scheduled for May 12th at 23:00 UTC. [4][5]
• You can use keyboard shortcuts to open the visual editor (meta+V) or the wikitext editor (meta+E) (on certain wikis, even if you have chosen a favorite editor). [6]

@Federico Leva (BEIC): The first never existed, the second I have restored. We need to use some common sense here though, these categories and our entire interaction would have been prevented if you contested the deletion as requested by the template placed on the page via bot. Without you removing the template, there is no way for administrators to identify if this is an old conversation that has been resolved and can be deleted, or an on-going conversation. Hi, may I ask what's wrong with the copyright of File:Chen_Shei-Saint_-_by_KeroroTW_2.jpg?

I'm sure that the file was uploaded by author. The author is one participant of "WikiLovesCongress Taiwan 2016", a project organized by Wikimedia Taiwan. As the organizer of this project, I saw the picture when it was taken.

• @Reke: This was a mistake on my part, the intended file for deletion was File:Chen Shei-Saint - by KeroroTW 2 Rebuild.jpg, a separate file that seems to be an edit of File:Chen_Shei-Saint_-_by_KeroroTW_2.jpg however it did not credit the source and contained no license. I think the rebuild version is made by Chen Shei-Saint's assistant. He asked Taiwan chapter some questions about how to make Chen have a younger look on Wikipedia. We told him that he can download the file, "photoshop" it, then re-upload under CC License, maybe he forgot the last step or didn't know how to do. @Joshyates1980: Unfortunately, there is no way to change the file to bypass the copyright. The copyright holder for the media depicted is the photographer, and without their permission through COM:OTRS or evidence that the file has been published under a free license elsewhere on the web, the file will only be redeleted if uploaded again. ~riley (talk) 17:14, 18 May 2016 (UTC)

Hello. I had an account on the main Wikipedia site under the name of User:LouisPhilippeCharles, years past, I got blocked, I forgot the password to said account. I then (a few months ago) got into contact with an admin who was able to revive my account on Wikipedia under the name of User:LouisPhilippeCharlesNEW. I was eventually blocked on that due to the spiteful machinations of another user who has taken a huge dislike to me. I had uploaded several images under the name of LPC and eventually got blocked on here (not 100% sure why) I then emailed countless people, literally begging for help but was ignored. Out of sheer anger and frustration I set up an account with the name User:JustOneDay as I wanted to upload a coat of arms I had made (" Coat of arms of Marie Christine de Rouvroy (1728-1774), Princess Charles Maurice of Monaco, Countess of Valentinois.png") . I uploaded with the correct license and it has since been deleted (Again unsure why) and eventually that was blocked. I get the feeling that a user by the name of User:Courcelles has taken to deep dislike to me. In their defence I did rant a bit but again only because I felt like no-one would bother to help or even pretend to do so.

Alas I have come to you. Only really to be unblocked on from using the Comons. I don't really have the patience to time to deal with the bureaucracy of other Wiki projects. Plus I really enjoy the commons if I'm honest. It's rewarding to build up a category. Plus I've made at least 30 overall. But yes. Please say you can help. Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. You made a mistake

You reverted me the autoverified flag for "edit warring" but you made a mistake. The user who was edit warringwas the user Turnless, who whas warned yesterday by another sysop User:Blackcat who recognized that the bad and pointless reverts were the ones done by User:Turnless. In fact Blackcakt asked "him" to stop edit warring with a sound reason ("pointless reverts"). And you blocked "me" instead of Turnless, whose talk has "plenty" of complains by other users due to its easiness to revert. Congratulations: for you info, on it.wiki I have admin flags so I know how things work. On it.wiki, an action as yours against me would have been enough to ask for you to be deflagged. The point is that Turnless is keeping a contraddictory behavior. My attempt was to achieve a "consistent" information across Commons maps. If you have a look at File:Same sex marriage map Europe detailed.svg, you will see that the user who posted the revision with Italy showing "civil union active" was exactly Turnless. So, on one file he accepts the situation, on another one he denies. This is my point. I suppose that this is a way to "try to solve a dispute properly" (ask for someone to mediate). Respectfully, don't you think so? Once again, you did not edit after his intervention because your version was still the most recent, so again, that goes to show nothing. From my perspective, to be frank, you went running to a friend for mediation and while doing so, you did not present a neutral case therefore the "mediation" wasn't much. You should have left the file in the state it was before edit warring began (which I did) and then directly spoken to the user on their talk page and/or the file talk page instead of both being immature and having a pointless edit war. You've had the autopatrolled flag for three years, let's not get caught up in "seven years of ..." As I said, its temporary removal and I won't be surprised if Blackcat readds it considering his involvement. Discussing options and accusing someone of doing something "close to vandalism" are two separate matters. You cannot enter a discussing trying to resolve a dispute by using caps "IMMEDIATE", saying their action is "unreasonable" and "without reason" and then ending on the vandalism note. This reply confirms me that you handled this whole situation in quite an approximate way. You point to my last intervention to user Turnless, once again diregrarding completely all the previous messages I tried to exchange with him (look at the whole talk, not just at the last message) where I tried, patiently and fairly, to explain him why in my opinion he was wrong in rollbacking. Why did you disregard these interventions of mine in your evaluation? Did you notice which were the reactions from user Turnless to these first attempts for exaplainations? None, simply he didn't reply and rolled back without a word. I repeated my interventions again and, since he continued, at the end I lost my patience (wrong? yes, but it's human), due to his lack of replies (when he eventually replied, it was quite late in this history). And that's why I claimed "close to vandalims": because Turnless seemed to have ignored my points. So: it looks like you looked thing only from one side, in an incomplete way (not taking into account the whole history but only the "last" messages), disregarding Commons:GOODFAITH on my side (read yourself here above: you always started from the assumption of "bad will" on my side), you evaluated my behaviour totally isolated from my history (and also this means somehow Commons:GOODFAITH was disregarded: you rushed into conclusions ignoring my overall behaviour, not only: stating that my history "doesn't matter". Being myself an admin and check user on it.wiki, I'd said that this is not what is expected by an admin who has to evaluate a situation), you removed from your talk an unsolicited (and on my side unexpected) intervention of another user in my favour (intervention restored by the user itself, history of this talsk evidences it), against the policies regulating the usage of talks (not a good sign). Did I manage this stuff in a not-optimal way? Yes, I did. But you as well definitely managed this whole stuff in a not-ideal way. Let's not pretend these interactions were about the issue at hand, they're irrelevant at this point. Your points previous were separate issues, and he responded to all but one of your messages so clearly he didn't ignore them. Let me be frank; I don't know your history (yes, i know you're a CU and admin on itwiki, I don't care), nor do I know Turnless' history. You both edit warred, you were both warned, and dispute resolution began. As for the "policies", you are citing, we have a talk page guideline and I am within my rights to remove comments from a wannabe admin who intervenes at every opportunity possible. However, the derivative indication seems to have been semi-stupid (using the wrong template, to start with, and possibly not placed by the original uploader, though it's hard for me to tell, since the file is deleted). Furthermore, I can't see that the deletion of either the GIF or the SVG was ever discussed in a properly-notified deletion discussion focusing on those files, and so would appear to be out of process in some respects... DVIDS & UNDEL

There's three issues,

1. I do not believe that OTRS tickets are needed for however many uploads may be affected (potentially several thousand). As linked in the UNDEL request, correspondence with DVIDS is published at User:Fæ/email/DoD#DVIDS, so there is no need to refer to non-public records when all of the relevant evidence, including DVIDS statements, are public for anyone to validate. A note could be added to the standard template, highlighting that the DVIDS FAQ exists, but even that seems excessive and is likely to be confusing as it would not apply to U.S. military employees.
2. For other past deleted images, there would need to be a check that DVIDS is a source for the image. However as I'm not an admin, this would be excessively difficult for me to do, as I cannot read the deleted image text page, nor can I double check that a VIRIN match in the filename actually is the deleted image seen at DVIDS. This latter point may seem arcane, but there have been many examples of several images using the same VIRIN on DoD databases and only a visual human check is entirely reliable as the SHA1 checks are unlikely to match between an original defenceimages upload and a DVIDS current file as the EXIF is changed automatically by their publishing process.
3. The consensus is not clear for other sources, such as images from military forces outside of the known U.S. coalition partners, direct agencies, or suppliers within DoD projects. Off the top of my head, I cannot highlight an image where that is the case, but at the moment even forces such as ADF which is a coalition partner is being argued/debated. The on-going debate gives me pause, as I would rather not invest my time changing templates or researching deleted files, unless this is stable and I know my work will stick. I am comfortable returning to this in several months if necessary (and depending on my availability), perhaps even parking it until I have sysop rights even if that takes years rather than months.

I am not fluent in English so I write to you about this edit. AFAIK "freer" is a valid English adjective and IMO the author of the first paragraph (that you've changed) had meant that an image licenced under "more free" (freer) licence should be preferred, e.g. a PD image should be preferred over similar image licenced under CC-BY-SA. Hi, you blocked Jhony jhony ha ji (talk · contributions · Move log · block log · uploads · Abuse filter log) block user on my complaint at the AN board. There are a lot of reuploads that I've reverted by that need revision deletion, I don't know how to tag those but it's sort of important as the copyvio images are in the history and he's reverted them back in multiple times (only a matter of time before the next sock does it again). Recent changes

• Wikimedia wikis now use AuthManager. If you have new problems related to logging in or being logged in, report them. [35]
• Visiting Special:Notifications doesn't automatically mark notifications as read anymore. You can go between read, unread or all notifications on Special:Notifications. Notifications on Special:Notifications are grouped by day. You can mark every daily group as read individually. Notifications are displayed by groups of 50 on Special:Notifications and you can find former notifications by using navigation arrows. [36][37][38][39]

Recent changes

• Notifications were not always marked as read when you followed a link from an email notification. This will now happen. [42]

Changes this week

• The list of other languages an article is available in will be shorter on small Wikipedias and non-Wikipedia projects. This is to make it easier to find the most relevant languages for each user. You will still be able to see the other languages. [43][44]
• Alerts (the red badge) will not be automatically marked as read when you open the Notifications popup. [45]
• When you get several thanks you can see them as one notification. This is instead of one notification for each thanks. [46]
• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 21 June. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 22 June. It will be on all wikis from 23 June (calendar).

Recent changes

• The ORES service has now moved to a new location. This should make it easier to use ORES. The ORES review service is now available as a beta feature on Wikidata and Persian Wikipedia. ORES is an artificial intelligence system for Wikimedia wikis to help editors. [47]
• The order of wikis in collapsed cross-wiki notifications was different than when the list was expanded. This is now fixed. [48]
• A new category for tracking pages with math errors was added: Category:Pages with math errors. [49]

Problems

• The Wikimedia Etherpad crashed on June 23. Some edits done that day have been lost. They can be found at etherpad-restore.wikimedia.org for another few days. [50][51]

• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 28 June. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 29 June. It will be on all wikis from 30 June (calendar).

Future changes

• An e-mail from the Editing Department explains the technical work that is planned and being researched for the future. Items include better wikitext and visual editing, prompts for edits, language improvements, annotations, and meta-data separation. [54]
• The sorting of Notifications into the two fly-out menus is going to change on July 5 to 7. Bundled notifications should be easier to explore and mark as read individually. [55][56][57]
• From 29 June git.wikimedia.org (running Gitblit) will redirect all requests to Phabricator. The vast majority of requests should be correctly redirected. [58]
• Catalan and Polish Wikipedias will have Wikidata descriptions added to articles in the mobile view by default. This is currently a beta option for the mobile versions. This might come to other wikis later. [59]

• The "⧼citoid-citefromidtool-title⧽" button in the visual editor's toolbar will move into the "Insert" menu except for Wikipedias, Wikibookses and Wikiversities. This is to make it less prominent on wikis that don't use it as much. [61]

Recent changes

• A new image scaler fixed a number of bugs for showing SVG files. Some new problems turned up. [62][63][64]
• Notifications are grouped by types. They are now counted by number of notifications and not by unread groups. That change may increase the number of notifications displayed. The earlier way of counting was often incorrect. Unread notifications will also be displayed first. [65][66][67]
• Special:Notifications now has a maximum width for the notifications list on desktop computers. This allows long titles and descriptions to be cut properly. Notifications are now also better parsed. [68][69][70]

Problems

• On 5 July Wikimedia Commons had problems and could not be edited for 20 minutes. For a short while after that the recent changes log and some gadgets were not working properly. It affected administrative actions on other projects too. [71]
• Users who have multiple unread notifications can mark them as read by visiting Special:Notifications page on their wiki.

• On July 12 all wikis were rolled back to MediaWiki 1.28.0-wmf.8 due to a problem in the log-in system. [75][76]

Ellin Beltz; I disabled the photo of the hour gimmick (hence the static image, regardless of the hour) because switching between portrait and horizontal images does not allow the rest of the theme to look good. As for the file that was downsized to make the blurryness less apparent, I would personally revert because the image can just be made smaller through wikicode. ~riley (talk) 04:25, 23 July 2016 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Monuments Winner removed

Hello riley, why the file Entardecer_elevedor_lacerda.jpg was removed from Commons? The uploader was the author of the photo and uploaded it giving CC licence permissions. Rodrigo Padula (talk) 14:06, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

Sorry for jumping into this discussion. User:Rodrigo Padula, it seems like all files by User:Ciroamado were removed because they was found in other places on the net as flagged by user:Josve05a (see User_talk:Josve05a#File:Entardecer_elevedor_lacerda.jpg). User:Ciroamado was notified on his talk page but never responded. Ciro Amado would need to send an email to OTRS clarifying that the author of the photographs on http://www.wresh.com.br/clientes/peach-site/author/ciro-amado/?post_type=product is the same person as User:Ciroamado. Once that is send we can start the process of undeleting the images. Let me know if you have any questions. --Jarekt (talk) 20:10, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

I checked it and in the other places the content is under the same name. That don't make sense, since the user name is very explicit under the same author name in both site.If we request that same thing to all authors that publish content under the same name in many sites we will have to delete great part of the wikimedia commons content IMHO. Olá, Ciroamado. Sim, é um problema que suas fotos estão em um site na Internet, e é um problema maior porque nesse site as imagens podem ser compradas, certo? Qualquer um pode criar uma conta aqui com o nome "Ciro Amado", e então não há nenhuma prova de que você é Ciro Amado. Se você pode remover as imagens desse site que você quer ter aqui no Commons então eu acho que suas fotos deletadas serão restauradas por um administrador. Certo, Gunnex? Dontreader,Gunnex, Josve05a, Jarekt: I contacted the user Ciroamado through facebook. He alredy sent an email to OTRS confirming that he is the author of all pictures loaded and owner of the commons user. I guess we can start to recover all content deleted and re-add that content to the respective pages where it was eliminated. Ping me if I can help with any other issue. Normally the WLE and WLM winners are confirmed and contacted by the local teams, I guess we need to improve that elimination proccess in the future. I processed OTRS and undeleted the images. As for WLE and WLM competitions, I thinks we should have conversation somewhere (not here) and have set of recommendations for competition organizers about the best practices. For example we had a lot of problems on Commons with competitions dumping thousands of images to categories like Category:nature, using bad file names or adding incorrect geocoordinates. All those issues have to be corrected by few volunteers. At the same time deletions of the images related to competitions should be coordinated with competition organizers, unfortunately those are often very hard to find. --Jarekt (talk) 15:21, 2 August 2016 (UTC)
