Image replace requests

Hi ZooFari, you deleted the Libcast_logo.jpg but I'm the designer of this logo and allow Wikipedia to host it with no restrictions. Thx for your help. http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Log&type=delete&page=File%3ALogo+Libcast.jpg

Image replace requests

Hi ZooFari, I recently placed two universal image move requests, which you removed along with others although the files haven't been replaced on the Wikipedia's. Did I miss something? --ELEKHHT 02:40, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi Elekhh. I'm not sure why the replacements weren't done. I added the batch to the main area a minute later. I have added that batch again, let see what happens. --ZooFari 05:15, 24 January 2011 (UTC)
Oh yes, now it went trough. All good, thanks. --ELEKHHT 05:56, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

M.A. Baby

Hi. You moved File:Cpmkeralamababy (30).jpg to File:Mababy(Educational minister of kerala).jpg. However, M.A. Baby was not the Minister of Education when the picture was taken, nor is the ministership a permanent condition. Something like "M-a-baby-cpim-politician" would be better. --Soman (talk) 14:02, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

You can contact User:Captainofhope as he was responsible for moving the file. I only added the replacement command to Commons Delinker. Thanks, --ZooFari 02:47, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi Zoo,

You removed my file BAND_PIC earlier saying it didn't have a license. I don't know if I did all of the things right to get the pic up, but I did upload it to wiki commons and I did verify it was my own. What did I do wrong?

Easy SVG request

Can you make an SVG of File:NYSenSE10Counties.png (start with File:Map of New York County Outlines.svg), but use the colors from File:ElectoralCollege2008.svg? Make county borders white like in the US map, as well (but keep the state outline black). Thanks! upstateNYer 03:32, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

Need Logo Restored

Hi ZooFari. You removed the Aditya Birla Minacs logo from the Aditya Birla Minacs page. I have written approval to upload the logo from the Global Leader of Marketing and Communications and the Director, Client Contracts at Minacs. I have submitted a permission statement to someone at Wikimedia Commons. Please tell me what else I need to do to get this image restored. Thanks.

See Commons:OTRS where there is more information on where to submit permissions. The file had a Commons user as the author as well as the one who licensed it, which is not correct if you have permission from someone else. Please send an email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org with the permission as well as the request to restore the file name File:Minacs_Logo_Small2.JPG. If permission is approved, they will restore the file. Thanks, --ZooFari 17:50, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

Image use

Hi

We are writing a book on spices and herbs.

The title is “Krydderleksikon med urter og smakstilsetninger” (Encyclopedia of spices and herbs). Print run is 5000 copies and the book will be published in May this year. It will be illustrated with photos of all the plants.

Most of the photos are already provided for but we still miss some picture.

We have found your photo of capsicum annuum on the Internet and we wonder if you kindly will let us use the photo in our book.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Capsicum_annuum_%28Guajillo%29_-_dried.jpg

For more information about us and the book please contact us on: post(a)vegaforlag.no - www.vegaforlag.no

Best regards Gitte

Of course! You may use any of my images as long as it is under accordance with its license terms. If you look for a less restrictive license, you may email me. --ZooFari 02:12, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

Hi mate

I know you didn't want to do it, but I think it's now necessary to protect File:Serbia EU (without Kosovo).svg Despite it being renamed to "without Kosovo", and there being the version with Kosovo in the "other versions" section, yet another user has reverted it again to back with Kosovo. The only way this will stop is if it's protected. Fry1989 (talk) 05:14, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Yeah I hate protecting for silly reasons. Done anyways. --ZooFari 02:35, 3 February 2011 (UTC)
Thanks, I know it unnerves you, but it had to be done. Btw, I got a couple new requests in the illustration lab if you're up for the challenge, if not, don't worry, I can wait for others to do it. Thanks again. Fry1989 (talk) 22:49, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

E-mail

G'day ZooFari,

I have sent you an email.

Kind regards ZooPro 05:45, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

just wondering if you had a chance to read my email? Cheers ZooPro 01:45, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
I had saw nothing until I read the junk email, sorry about that :). The logo might be doable, but it won't end up exactly like it. Is the font vital? How tolerable can changes be? --ZooFari 02:01, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
I will be happy with anything you do, if that font isnt possible how about something like papyrus? I am at your mercy and will be pleased with anything you create :). ZooPro 02:07, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
G'day ZooFari I hadnt heard anything back from you yet and just wondered if you have had a chance to attempt that logo for me? If not that fine, if you are unable to do it please let me know. Kind regards ZooPro 05:50, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
Sorry for the late reply. Been busy the last couple of days. I will work on this request (I just need the leaf and tiger pattern to work on), though I need to finish up another one brought up to me earlier. --ZooFari 00:43, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

Request

Hey ZooFari! I have a new request for you. I remember... having uploaded as User:Bodoque57, the logo of Pichilemu, I don't remember under which name, but it was some kind of banner that included it. I do need the logo for the Wikipedia article (where it will be uploaded as fair use), as I could not find it anywhere! I would appreciate it if you could send it to my e-mail, it's on my Wikinews userpage). Thank you in advance. Diego Grez return fire 05:17, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Ommastrephes bartramii

Hello. I noticed that you recently renamed File:Ommastrephes_bartramii_(Neon_flying_squid),_Northern_Hawaiian_waters.jpg. While I planned to do the same in the future, wouldn't this affect the OTRS? The OTRS is still pending on the picture after all and volunteers may not be able to find the picture now. Anyway just a heads up in case it's a problem. Thanks.--ObsidinSoul 04:04, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

Hi. I think as long as we have a redirect it should be no problem. I have left a note in the ticket anyways, thanks for the notice. --ZooFari 18:35, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
Ok gotcha. Thanks. :) --ObsidinSoul 19:23, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

Didn't work?

Hello ZooFari

This seems to not have worked. Because the old file is still there, the new file isn't - and it's even refusing my workaround attempt at simply uploading it afresh under the new name. Could you please look at this and fix? Ingolfson (talk) 08:28, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

Hi Ingolfson. Is it now fixed? I renamed and replaced again, hope those were the intended results. --ZooFari 18:30, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
Thanks, yes that did the trick. Not sure what was wrong - same problem happened the first time recently too when I used the image rename via Delinker on another file... Ingolfson (talk) 04:03, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

Flag

Can you please help me. File:Serbia EU (without Kosovo).svg this flag was was protected by you with "People don't understand this is for WITHOUT Kosovo". Also, some other users have the same attitude. I understand you, but as you may see here, normal map of Serbia was moved to this map as someone removed Kosovo from it. Please, as i dont know how to upload .svg, can you create Serbia map on File:Serbia EU.svg that WILL include Kosovo? Only then we will have balance we need. All best. --WhiteWriter speaks 13:39, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

Ooo, i just find this! File:Serbia EU (with Kosovo).svg As Kosovo is per Serbian status offical part of Serbia, this map should be moved to File:Serbia EU.svg, as in all other disputed region maps. --WhiteWriter speaks 13:46, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
Moving it sounds potentially controversial. But glad you found it, it should be included in the "other versions" in File:Serbia EU (without Kosovo).svg. --ZooFari 18:15, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
I am sorry, but how it can be controversial? It is very POV to leave it like this. It was on File:Serbia EU.svg, but after some vandalism removal of Kosovo, it was moved. Please, restore it back, and after that we all can discuss is that title the best possible. Also, that title is in line with all agreement reached on main project on en wiki, and per WP:ARBMAC decisions. -WhiteWriter speaks 14:56, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
The original File:Serbia EU.svg file was originally uploaded as a map without Kosovo, so there was never vandalism removal of it. Also, the file name properly describes that it is a map of Serbia which recognizes Kosovo, so there is no POV. Just clarifying :). While I now understand the reason why you want it moved, can you have someone else move it instead? I don't feel so comfortable moving it myself mostly because I don't have enough time to be watching it should there be a concern. Thanks! --ZooFari 05:11, 17 February 2011 (UTC)

Quick admin edit

Can you make a couple changes at File:Official portrait of Barack Obama.jpg, please?

 1. Change the English description to the following: Official photographic portrait of US President :en:Barack Obama (born 4 August 1961; assumed office 20 January 2009)
 2. Update author to the following: :en:Pete Souza, official White House photographer (then photographer for the Obama-Biden Transition Project)

Thank you much! upstateNYer 06:56, 26 February 2011 (UTC)

I've changed the English description accordingly. I think the author field was left intentionally simple because of translation. Would adding it to the English description be better or...? --ZooFari 23:28, 26 February 2011 (UTC)

File:Nur05018.jpg

Hi Zoofari,

Apparently you deleted this image of recently formed pillow lava off Hawaii. I can't work out why this was deleted as the other file mentioned in your edit summary was deleted itself as a duplicate of this file see (Commons:Deletion requests/File:Párnaláva.jpg), I'm confused. This image comes from a NOAA webpage [1], I know that such images are not guaranteed usable on commons, but it would be good to know what the issue was as the image was in use on several pages in various different language wikipedias. However, File:Pillow basalt crop l.jpg is another duplicate. Is there a problem with this image? Mikenorton (talk) 18:54, 26 February 2011 (UTC)

Hi Mikenorton. No, there was no problem with the image except that the source was broken. I've now fixed the source using the link you provided above. I accidentally deleted the other file so I apologize. The global links are still intact, which is a good thing :). --ZooFari 23:38, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for that, I'll replace the image where it was deleted. Mikenorton (talk) 07:52, 27 February 2011 (UTC)

Mediation_HKEMC_Venue_001.jpg and others

Hello ZooFari. You've deleted 4 photos and logo we centre upload to wikimedia commons for violation to copyrights, namely:-

 • Mediation_HKEMC_Venue_001.jpg
 • Mediation_HKEMC_Venue_002.jpg
 • Mediation_HKEMC_Venue_003.jpg
 • Mediation_HKEMC_Logo.jpg

Please be informed that the photos and logo are owned by our centre. Those are the photos and logo of our centre. It should not attract any copyrights issue. Our website www.hkemc.com.hk is using the same photos and logo.

Please restore the photos and logo as soon as possible. If you need further information, please email to info@hkemc.com.hk.

Thanks for the note. Unfortunately, we need evidence that you are indeed associated with the source and that you hold rights to the image. Please see Commons:OTRS for specific information on how to do this. Basically an email sent to OTRS from an email address listed on the website would probably be sufficient evidence. Thanks and sorry for the inconvenience. Let me know if you have further questions. --ZooFari 03:33, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

One minor issue is that the script does not work if the template is spelled Licensereview as oppossed to LicenseReview, see File:Nassa_serta_001.jpg. You get a No template detected window. --Captain-tucker (talk) 17:36, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

Fixed, should work now. Thanks for the note, --ZooFari 22:38, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

About the deleted image "Round_all.jpg"

Hello, nice to meet you. Sinceresly, this image is too simple and no-special, to have a license. It's free to use and distribute! (including commercial distributions).

Really, doesn't exist any license to this image, but anyways I don't know how to explain it when I upload the image.

I only want use this image to the Spanish version of the article "The Revenge of Shinobi".

Thanks for your help.

Ps.: Ah, and sorry for my English level (if anything is wrong), so I'm Spanish.

Bye. Kingpowl (talk) 17:11, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

Hola Kingpowl. --ZooFari 23:01, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

File:Star of David.svg

Can you please edit the file so it matches the blue from the Israeli national flag? The blues are pretty similar, but the flag blue is a little less....."flourescent" if you will. It's currently protected so only admins can edit it, or else I'd do it myself. Thanks. Fry1989 (talk) 21:33, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

Some people want it true blue because it does not necessarily have to be associated with the flag of Israel. Maybe you should ask the uploader (who also attempted to upload it under the flag colors). --ZooFari 23:12, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

Industrial history in/of Sweden

Hi! I noticed that you have removed the category Industrial history in Sweden in favour of Category:Industrial history of Sweden. The hatch is that the later category is still "red". Could you please move the category structure that was in "Industrial history in Sweden" to "Industrial history of Sweden"? Regards --V-wolf (talk) 20:37, 6 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi. Sorry about the red link, now Fixed. --ZooFari 21:02, 6 March 2011 (UTC)

Reviewer

Hello. I am thinking of applying to be license reviewer here in Wikimedia Commons. About me, I have joined this project since late 2006, contributed occasionally here and there, and I have a decent amount of knowledge about copyrights and licensing policy in Commons. However before posting my request, I'm wondering whether I meet the requirements to be a reviewer. I'm open to any input or suggestions about whether I should be a license (image) reviewer. Btw, I'm an established user and hold file mover, rollback, and patroller tools. —stay (sic)! 09:43, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

A reviewer should know what images that can be licensed under a free license and what creative commons licenses are acceptable. MorganKevinJ(talk) 16:07, 9 March 2011 (UTC)
Hi Snake311. To be honest, I'm a bit picky on activity. I would prefer an increase in participation, but you may apply anyways. Someone recently applied who had the same actively level as you, but was promoted anyways. --ZooFari 02:28, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
Okay, I have read and understand the Commons licensing policy and if needed, I can always increase my participation. —stay (sic)! 06:10, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

File:El Badi Palace by Adriaen Matham 1640.jpg

Question about cosplay

Hi! I have asked the same question in the spanish wikipedia but they told me to ask someone here and they said you could be of help, so here I am. I was reviewing some articles on wikipedia based on japanese manga and anime and I realized that most of them have no images. That's ok as images from mangas or anime are copyrighted, but I was wondering if I could upload here images from flickr (CC-BY or CC-BY-SA of course) from en:cosplays in comic-cons or similar, the thing is that people make awesome disguises that are very similar to the images from the manga. Let me show you an example, the character en:Rei Ayanami, with lots of images in google (most of them copyrighted from the anime), has also some very nice cosplays in flickr here, here or here. Can I upload them to Commons? Thanks! --Duuk-Tsarith (talk) 10:02, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi Duuk-Tsarith. There is actually a section in Commons:Image casebook right here which describes the use of costumes and cosplay material. It advices that any costume of a character that is in the public domain may always be permitted, but that there is no consensus yet for those that are copyrighted. I don't advice uploading material to Commons unless they meet de minimis. Or you can upload as fair use if your wiki allows it. --ZooFari 18:47, 13 March 2011 (UTC)
Thank you, our wiki doesn't allow fair use so I won't upload anymore photos like that, thanks! --Duuk-Tsarith (talk) 08:33, 14 March 2011 (UTC)

Seals request

Would yo be up for fixing the seals in this request? It should be pretty easy I would expect since most of the neccesary elements except for the wording are already available. It's just been sitting there for a long time. Let me know :) Fry1989 (talk) 21:19, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi again. I have another request if you're up for it, but it's ok if not. You were really helpful on the Seals of Michigan and Puerto Rico, thanks again for that. I have so many state government seals to request(of the senates, governors, things like that) that we don't have on here, it's just slow-moving. I gotta be more patient, haha ;) Fry1989 (talk) 01:20, 21 April 2011 (UTC)

G'day

Hey ZooFari, just wanted to ask if you ever got around to doing that Cairns Safari Reserve logo for me? If not thats okay, Cheers ZooPro 14:32, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

Would you be willing to grant me file mover status on commons? I have been for some time planning to tackle the mis-named animal files on commons and am a file mover on en.wiki, I did some animal ID's for Rlevse in August. If not thats okay I will tag a few files and make a request at the rights requests page later. Cheers ZooPro 13:13, 18 March 2011 (UTC)
Hi ZooPro. Sorry for the huge delays, I have been extremely busy. I will definitely try to get the logo done this weekend. The leaf and tiger portion of the logo has been a tough one. As for the filemover right, people won't like it if I grant a ~75 edit count user the filemover right, since the typical minimum is above 100 :(. I'd be happy to rename them for you in the meantime though. --ZooFari 00:17, 19 March 2011 (UTC)
Thanks ZooFari much appreciated. Its okay about the file mover, I have posted a request and if its denied thats okay I will just tag the files until I reach a few hundred edits. ZooPro 09:30, 19 March 2011 (UTC)

Can you please restore this image as we have received the OTRS permissions. The OTRS TT is # 2011031710002501 --Sreejith K (talk) 06:43, 17 March 2011 (UTC)

But the OTRS email came from Zachary Norman Engelleitner who I don't think is the author. So I am confused on this. --Sreejith K (talk) 10:57, 18 March 2011 (UTC)
I'm not sure about it either. Maybe bring it up at Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard? --ZooFari 04:51, 19 March 2011 (UTC)
Got a reply that permission is now approved here. --ZooFari 20:58, 19 March 2011 (UTC)

Licensereview script

Dear ZooFari, Thanks for your helpful script! There is one problem I am encountering: handling of Licensereview (without R as a capital) does not function correctly. I am asked for the source website URL, but when clicking the OK button, nothing happens. Perhaps you can look into it. Kind regards, Lymantria (talk) 07:27, 28 March 2011 (UTC).

Renamed file

Reguarding the file i've moved i've not objections about what you wroten. But i would to specify something: I've found the request move template added by another user. Of course, when I find a request I don't move automatically: I always control on "history" and on Wikipedia to study the subject. This time i've decided to move from "Wilthen.jpg" to "Bahnhof Wilthen.jpg" because Wilthen (a German municipality) should be too generic. This reason is not listed here but I remember, reading the guidelines (sorry, I don't remember the link), the advice to avoid names using only capital letters (eg.: File:OSCAR WILDE CROPPED.JPG) or too much generic/ambiguous (eg.: File.London.jpg used for a picture of Vauxhall station). If the move is unnecessary this time (Wilthen is not London or Chicago, of course, and that one is the only railway station in the town) there is no problem to me to revert. Sorry if it represented a problem for you. Regards. --Dэя-Бøяg 12:44, 10 April 2011 (UTC)

Hi DerBorg. I've started a discussion about such moves here. Currently I don't think these moves to make the file name more accurate is allowed. You may want to follow that discussion to see any outcomes. --ZooFari 18:40, 10 April 2011 (UTC)

Hi! The first: Czerniawski is a popular surname, here in Poland. We have 12 Czerniawski's on Polish wiki, see -> [9]. Some of them are writers as Piotr Czerniawski, as well, so more specific name is very useful to recognise what Czerniawski we are talking about. The second: I upload this file to wiersze.wikia.com to ilustrate the page about Piotr Czerniawski and his works and the file is linked to Commons page where is more description and the file license. So it is very usuful if the file name is more descriptive and accurate. Regards Electron   18:08, 10 April 2011 (UTC)

Unclear copyright

Hi ZooFari

Looks like copyright is unclear in http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Steve_Kent

Permission was sent by Steve Kent to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org On Feb 28, 2011 [10],[11], On Feb 24, 2011 [12]. On Feb 24, 2011 http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Steve_Kent_-_Chair_of_the_Board_%26_Chief_Commissioner_-_Scouts_Canada_01.jpg Permission for: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Steve_Kent_signature_large.jpg Was sent on Apr 18, 2011.

Let me know what needs to be done to get this fixed so the problem doesn't come up again, please? Canbrit01 (talk) 01:48, 20 April 2011 (UTC)!

Hi. Well, you described the correct procedure at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Steve Kent in the house.jpg, so that's all that's needed for the files other than the signature. As for the signature, I have removed the problem tag because the license tag is correct. What's left to do now is wait for OTRS respond. Not sure how much the backlog is, since I haven't logged in for a while, but if the permission was sent recently then there's nothing to worry about. --ZooFari 05:06, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

Hi ZooFari, when I was going to delete File:1 Dinar Macedonia 1993.jpg, I saw that you had deleted and undeleted it yesterday. Why did you undelete? --Túrelio (talk) 06:47, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

Hi Túrelio. A mass number of coin images were nominated for speedy deletion, so I started deleting a few. I realized a mass number of images that were related to each other so I put them into mass DR instead. This one was not part of that group so I probably shouldn't have undeleted it. You may of course take on deletion. --ZooFari 07:02, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

You mean File:The New.Jpeg? You uploaded it 21:36, 15 April 2011 and was tagged that same day. It has been seven days and you didn't fix it.File:The New Album.jpg was deleted immediately by someone else because it was a copyright violation. Beatles

Hola.

--ZooFari 23:15, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
Mmmm si, creo que tienes razón. --Andrea (talk) 23:27, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

Clarification

I should probably point out that email with the SVG request you received was from me. I didn't use my wikipedia email account. upstateNYer 02:26, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

Hey, this is going to be an important image the next few weeks. Care to SVG it? upstateNYer 21:13, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
Replied. As for the diagram, I'll see if I can have a go at it during my freetime. --ZooFari 23:48, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

Hi. I think, you made mistake deleting File:600px Emblema Minatore.svg because it contained no copyright details, I had made this simple image using vector graphics. Please, look through Category:Association football logos of Ukraine - there you can find even more spectacular examples of copyright violation (all files except File:Herb pogon lwow.png, 'cause this logo was designed about 1910-1930). Thank you in advance. Hoping for your cooperation! --PavloFriend (talk) 10:29, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

Hi PavloFriend. Some may argue that the graphic is complex enough for copyright, which is my thought right now. You may open an undeletion request at Commons:Undeletion requests/Current requests so that others can voice there opinions and see if they think otherwise. --ZooFari 01:15, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

Missed one

Hello Zoofari,

re Commons:Deletion requests/Files of User:Dorotea Mendes: You missed File:A Prado R Mismetti Margravial Opera House.jpg. And by the way, a user (called Suzi Taki) wrote on my talk page at the German wikipedia several days ago claiming those were indeed her (his?) original pictures and that they were uploaded in such a small size on purpose. I suggested she confirm this by sending an appropriate e-mail to Commons OTRS. I haven't heard anything from this user since. I don't know if those claims are true or not, just wanted to let you know. Regards --Rosenzweig δ 17:36, 6 May 2011 (UTC)

✓ Done. First User:Dorotea Mendes, then User:Dietrich Hilmi, and now User:Suzi Taki. I don't have the time right now to investigate all these user names, and besides, it's a sign of problematic things. You may tell the user about OTRS since the images were not uploaded under his/her user name. --ZooFari 01:20, 8 May 2011 (UTC)
I already did. At least I told the one user that actually reacted to the deletion request. --Rosenzweig δ 03:40, 8 May 2011 (UTC)
Thanks, let me know if about any replies, etc. --ZooFari 03:56, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

Any idea who I could call for help? Regards Liné1 (talk) 06:21, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
I'm not sure what's wrong. I wasn trying to get in contact with some people who might have an idea, but had no success. --ZooFari 22:36, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
I think it has to do with WikispeciesCompact beginning with that begins with tab opening. I think I remember about a wiki bug like that. Cheers Liné1 (talk) 06:05, 21 May 2011 (UTC)

Heart immage fix

Hi, I was editing the heart entry in Wikipedia and I noticed the image you've worked on in there of the heart. The problem with it is that the left atrium is not labelled on the image. I tried to figure out if I could fix it, but the image is single layered and it requires removing some of the lines and whatnot and I just don't have the capabilities. I'm plaidman on en Wikipedia if you need to contact me.

Hi, I have made the fix along with other fixes I have been waiting to do for a while. Let me know if you need anything else. --ZooFari 17:17, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

Old Heraldic Crowns - KEPT?

My old png versions are completely replaced with my updated SVGs by now. The old ones are thus obsolete. They won't be used in any future article, they are just lying around and making inspection of categories difficult, so they should be deleted to improve facility of inspection in the categories of heraldic crowns. Could you talk some sense into that administrator User_talk:Jcb who annoys me with talking about policy of not deleting SVG replacements of png? This policy was made up to prevent SVG creators to undemanded replace the work of OTHER users, but in this case it's me who replaced them himself and wants them deleted. --David Liuzzo (talk) 13:18, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

Replied at Jcb's talk page. --ZooFari 17:18, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

Hi ZooFari, just letting you know that I've made a slight fix to one of your wonderful SVGs, and have also rotated the text. Cheers, -- Eug (talk) 12:45, 16 May 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, looks better! --ZooFari 14:11, 16 May 2011 (UTC)
I don't mean to pick nits but the area labelled is not the left atrium. The atrium is basically like a reservoir that loads blood into the main pump of the ventricles. The left atrium is the less pronounced area below the left pulmonary veins, but above the mitral valve/left ventricle. Good news is though all you need is to shorten that line, shouldn't take more than a moment. 70.71.15.41 05:47, 17 May 2011 (UTC)
Hehe, thanks for catching that. Fixed --ZooFari 04:19, 18 May 2011 (UTC)
Perfect, now I think everything except possibly the muscle clusters are labelled in that diagram. Thanks. 70.71.15.41 05:34, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

Hi ZooFari! Thank you for your great job making logo of Guides and Scouts of Finland (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Guides_and_Scouts_of_Finland.svg). Could you please rotate it 90 degrees clockwise. Lilies should be up and down while trefoils should be right and left. And "light" comes from up-left, so shadows should be down and right. Strange Cats

Hey Zoo, what is the idea of creating categories like Cases related to sexual content? I cannot see any benefit, or does we also need Cases related to human pictures (deleted) or Cases related to blurry images (kept)? --Yikrazuul (talk) 16:56, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

It's a controversial topic, so preserving a list can be useful in some ways. For example, I came across many deletion requests that did not deserve to be deleted (or kept) and interested users may take action. Perhaps in the future, we would have a solution to the controversy to which a list of previously deleted would be useful. It's just a list to preserve requests in a sorted manner. If you want to have the community approve of this first, then we can do that. --ZooFari 19:42, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
Some of them already passed undeletion requests, so preserving requests in the future until it "fits" cannot be our goal. What pictures deserved to be deleted or kept is always a point of view. And honestly, at a certain point of time we should accept some decisions, otherwise this will be a neverending back and for.
Likewise, I donna see any benefit if we opened a general cat of deleted or kept pictures of any kind (nice for the record, but life goes on.). G'night, --Yikrazuul (talk) 20:31, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
File:POL_Lipno_(jezioro_w_województwie_pomorskim)_02_(edits).jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Alfred Loreau

Concerns: article "Alfred Loreau" / Bis repetita

You have deleted a picture(which was a nice addition to this article of which I am one of the main authors) of the castle of Beauvoir in Briare which clearly is over a hundred years old. It is too bad that you do not ask before you delete or make the necessary changes if that is what is requested (adding one of your incomprehensible license signs).

I hope you will restore it.

thx Chaanara (talk) 05:47, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

You mean File:Chateau de Beauvoir.jpg? The file lacked sufficient information such as a date, verifiable source, and legit author to claim it is free because it is old. We cannot assume that the file is old just because it is black and white. If you can provide more information about the image and evidence that it is old, then I can restore it. --ZooFari 14:54, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

Hi, can please check this image and reply to uploader's message, thank you.   ■ MMXX  talk  13:21, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

Oh, really bad. I hate Facebook. The photo only can be watch by the uploader friends. Really bad, but I'll take a screenshot verifing that it's true. Can you wait some minutes? --Jessicabieber8 (talk) 21:30, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

Hello, this is a screenshot by me which shows that Fer Parra says: "Yo, el títular de los derechos de autor de esta obra la libero al dominio público para que la puedas compartir, distribuir y utilizar como quieras" (I, the copyright owner of this image, release this image to the public domain. Now, you are free to share, to adapt the work and to use it as you want) [sorry by my bad english]. And this is the complete image, you can see that is the full image size screenshot. Hope you can understand. Thanks.--Jessicabieber8 (talk) 21:44, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

Serbia EU maps

Hi Zoofari, I'm afraid there's one other thing I have to bother you about. It's regarding File:Serbia EU (without Kosovo).svg and File:Serbia EU.svg. As you can see on the first file, there were numerous reverts back and forth over whether or not the map should include Kosovo, per it's disputed status. Eventually it came to the comprimise of having two maps, one with and one without. They were to be each named as such with the bracketed inclusion "with" or "without Kosovo". However, the second file, currently named Serbia EU.svg, was moved to that new name by user:WhiteWriter. As you can see from the revert-war on the first file, he has a personal conflict-of-interest in the matter, and supports Kosovo as Serbian territory, and therefore I'm afraid he has abused his abilities to further that cause. Having the map simply be named "Serbia EU", without the "(with Kosovo)" brakecting further suggests that Kosovo is somehow still officially part of Serbia, which we both know, personal views aside, isn't the reality, and hasn't been for some time. To maintain neutrality, I therefore am asking that you move File:Serbia EU.svg back to it's previous name "Serbia EU (with Kosovo)", and protect both files from future abuse. I know you don't like to do it, but in this case, I think you'll agree it's necessary. Fry1989 (talk) 08:22, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

Hi Fry1989. I have move protected the file and protected the redirect. The redirect will go to File:Serbia EU (with Kosovo).svg but it shouldn't be a big deal since the one without Kosovo is linked on that page. --ZooFari 16:37, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. Fry1989 (talk) 18:33, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

The links are not broken now!

Hello, I fixed the links. Check this, is the photo, and you can see that the image overview is: "Yo, el títular de los derechos de autor de esta obra la libero al dominio público para que la puedas compartir, distribuir y utilizar como quieras". Hope you see ;) --Jessicabieber8 (talk) 18:22, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

Mmm, but, do you try to see the photo without log in? You need to log in first, and you'll can. 'Cause, I try to see the image across a friend's account and the image can be watched, 'cause I tell to the copyright owner, that he needs to select the album's privacity: "All". But, please: i don't understand so much English languaje ;S But, I'm sure that is true that he donate the image--Jessicabieber8 (talk) 21:57, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

Patroller

I just checked your comment that more patrollers are needed on Commons. Yeah, thats true that I have good experience with this tool, as I am a reviewer on Hindi wikipedia, and many vandals comes there. I just wanted to ask what are the requirements for this right, as I am a bit confused as no requirement is stated on COM:PATROL. Thanks for guiding. Vibhijain (talk) 17:36, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

No special requirements, as long as you're trusted. I have given you the patrolling and rollback right to assist you in the process. You may also want to check out new pages. Those that do not meet the project scope are usually the ones with no images and created for informational purposes (Commons supposed to be about galleries and images). Some are categorized though, so check to see if that category has any images that can be added to the gallery page. If you have questions, just ask! --ZooFari 17:53, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

Hello, ZooFari/Archive!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Closure of discussion about /Proposals

ZooFari,

Not sure what you were trying to do, but somehow you duplicated a thread. --  Docu  at 21:18, 3 July 2011 (UTC)

Oops, fixed. Thanks for the note. --ZooFari 21:19, 3 July 2011 (UTC)

I just got reverted once more (part of my comment was removed/moved around). What shall I do? --  Docu  at 21:38, 3 July 2011 (UTC)

Personally the other header "Proposal" should not belong either, but your header was just removed and he moved his "Proposal" subsection below all other discussion. Not sure why. You may want to move your comment where you intend it to be (besides being in a subsection) and live with it, I guess (I'll ask him to remove his subheading too). --ZooFari 21:48, 3 July 2011 (UTC)
He seems to have some problems with sequential discussions and conclusions. He frequently starts parallel discussions on the same topic. --  Docu  at 21:52, 3 July 2011 (UTC)
You seem to have some problems with the concept of a wiki. It allows things to be moved around in order to organise discussion in the most productive way. It's much better than a forum, which is enslaved to a structure based purely on the sequential order of what was posted. Rd232 (talk) 21:58, 3 July 2011 (UTC)
ZooFari, looks like you didn't have much look either, thus I moved my comment back to where it was. --  Docu  at 22:06, 3 July 2011 (UTC)

This Photo lab request here

Dear ZooFari,

Can you perhaps please remove the prominent watermarks from the 2 pictures below and upload the watermark free image over the existing image file? I notice that Amada44 is now on a holiday for 4 weeks. Someone filed a DR on the first image (even though it has secure copyright) because of the large watermark and Admin Lupo suggested I try Photography workshop. Here are the 2 pictures...if you can help:

Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 19:30, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

Sure, I'll see what I can do. --ZooFari 05:32, 6 July 2011 (UTC)
 •  Comment: Thank You Admin ZooFari. I hope the watermark can be minimized if not eliminated. The thing is both photos are in Common's scope, very important and of high resolution. But the photographer seems to want to place very large watermarks on his copyright free images here even though he is already attributed as the source. If the watermark cannot be removed or minimised, other users may complain against these 2 important photos sadly. Regards from trusted user Leoboudv and good luck! --Leoboudv (talk) 09:04, 6 July 2011 (UTC)
✓ Done. Let me know if you need anything else. --ZooFari 16:27, 6 July 2011 (UTC)
 •  Comment: That is excellent work Admin ZooFari. Thank you for your kind help and generosity in removing the watermark for these 2 images. I think the issue here on the Photography workshop can be stated to be resolved too. Now these 2 photos...are safe to be used on Wikipedia. With kind Regards from Metro Vancouver, Canada, --Leoboudv (talk) 19:18, 6 July 2011 (UTC)

Please take care about rest of user uploads and pages. Thank you. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:58, 11 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi. This isn't "making consistency". It's just messy now that the archive box on the main request page doesn't clarify what archives are where. It looks like the flickr review request page turned into a general license review request page. It would probably be more consistent to find out when that happened and archive requests posted to the new format in the archive page you created, not just randomly picking a day to start a new archive.

Hope that makes sense. Killiondude (talk) 16:25, 11 July 2011 (UTC)

Makes sense, sure. This diff shows that Rockfang and Jonathunder were the first two users on the new requests page, but they were both archived in the middle of Flickr archive page. We could simply move the requests and anything after Rockfang to archive 9, and then move it to the new format, but that will ruin any links that link to them. What do you think? --ZooFari 17:00, 11 July 2011 (UTC)

Hello, I uploaded an image of General Manuel Noriega, so that I can use it for an Wikipedia article, where it was agreed that a better image has to be used. No one has claims on that image, as it is just a photograph of a portrait that was found, and it was distributed when then portrait was set for auction. No one claims to be the painter of that portrait. So how can I stop it from being deleted? --Kajatty (talk) 06:47, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi! It has come to my attention that you have removed a warning which says that a file doesn't have enough information about the source or license conditions. Nevertheless, it seems to me that this information is still missing and I have restored the tag. You may either add the required information or, if you think that required information is already given, put the image up for a deletion request so that it won't automatically be deleted. Thank you.
 • Regarding File:Lindsey the fashion queen.jpg, the warning was there becasue the source is not own work and uploader is unlikely to be the author, and therefore can't give permission. I requested permission via OTRS from the real copyright holder, or else a speedy deletion. Furthermore, take a look at uploaders talk page and it will be clear that a discussion about this is not necessary via a deletion request. Jan Arkesteijn (talk) 09:20, 12 July 2011 (UTC)
 • How do you know it is not own work? What you think and your doubts is not enough to justify tagging an image with a problem tag that says "you do not have permission". You risk accusing the author for something that could be his or her own work. I have converted to DR. Please do not get the habit of tagging stuff with no source or permission because you have doubts. Just use it if you know it is not own work and the author admitted to it by providing another source information. Thank you. --ZooFari 16:41, 12 July 2011 (UTC)
You may not agree with the tag no-permission for images like that, but it is common practice to do it here on commons for self proclaimed work by uploaders. You initially removed the tag on the file, but you left it on the talkpage of uploader. By so taking the image out of the cat Media missing permission, it would never have been checked again. So you may complain about me, but the result of your action was wrong. I don't mind that you made a DR out of this, but it will take longer, it will take more people to look at it, and the result will be the same. If this really is own work, then she would be the copyright owner of the 3 different pictures that are integrated in the image, which is doubtfull. This not own work, it is an image copied by a fan who has been writing an article about Lindsey Blaufarb. Maybe you still have doubts, but to me it is clear. Jan Arkesteijn (talk) 17:59, 12 July 2011 (UTC)
It is not common practice, and definitely not for "self-proclaimed work". That's what copyvio tag is for, and not justified for that either. I help clear the backlogs myself and only few mistaggers come about. It is more common practice that you use DR whenever you have doubts. If you fail to provide reasonable concrete evidence for "no permission", then that tag clearly does not belong. It doesn't matter if you really think it is a copyright violation, or if the file is still going to be deleted anyways. When an admin deletes something, the deletion summary better be reasonable without accusing the uploader of such things. I made the mistake of not converting to DR, sure. But knowing that you may continue to tag files in these types of situations, I'm not going to want to convert each and every one of them to DR. --ZooFari 18:18, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

I read your essay and I will try to keep that in mind when I check new contributions. The no-permission tag is however the only tag that summons the uploader to act, and that is why I think it can be used on a wider scale than you suggest. By the way, re-reading the conversation concerning this upload, I don't like it that you describe my response as barking at you. Jan Arkesteijn (talk) 09:43, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

I did not intend to describe your response as barking, I apologize. This "barking" is what I like to call every time you hear it in the admin's board, barking like there's nothing else to do :). I've removed that phrasing to avoid others taking it seriously, but thanks for reading anyways. --ZooFari 00:04, 16 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi, any chance you could pull the PDF URL I extracted this logo from so I can re-upload on enwiki? Thanks. Connormah (talk | contribs) 00:13, 13 July 2011 (UTC)

Sure, here you go. --ZooFari 03:06, 13 July 2011 (UTC)

File:Káktous.jpg, File:Echeveria laui Cact Suc Mex.jpg, File:H.S.Gentry.jpg and File:Digitostigmacaputmedusae.jpg

Hi ZooFari, on the 30th of May, I sended an email with details on permission for these files. After that I've put the OTRS pending tag, and a few days later an user deleted them. I explained the situation and she/he restored them, and I've put the tag back.

Now, you deleted three of them and the other one (File:Digitostigmacaputmedusae.jpg) has a tag stating that the "file has not received OTRS verification and will be deleted in 15 days". Do you know if this means that my email came through but there was some information missing or it wasn't approved? I've never got a reply for my email, so I'm not sure if this is normal or not?

I just show up here every now and then, and I've been seen the files get deleted and then restored, now deleted again, but unfortunately I can't tell what's wrong or what should I do next to know more about the permission approving process for these files.

I hope you can help me get some understanding here. Thanks in advance!

Hi Kauderwelsch. Your email was received and is available as ticket #2011053010013051. No one has responded to it, but once someone takes care of it they will be restored. --ZooFari 19:11, 20 July 2011 (UTC)

Save, Save, Save,

Hey Zoo I saw you post on Fry1989's Page, just wanna give you a heads up (which you proabaly already know) My Inkscape has been crashing on me alot lately..so one word..SAVE! Save as you move along. Of cource I tend to forget until its to late. Cheers Jetijones (talk) 05:57, 18 July 2011 (UTC)

Heh, yep, I've been learning the hard way. I've already developed a habit of pressing the save button almost after every change, but during Fry's request I thought Inkscape would carry through. It beat me that time. Cheers, --ZooFari 06:07, 18 July 2011 (UTC)

Image Replace Request

Hi Zoofari, you removed the "Dale_NCGA_2011.jpg" from Dale Folwell's page. That picture was produced by the state of North Carolina to use as part of his duties as a public official. As far as I know the state does not have a copyright claim to it, and we are free to use it on his page. I may not have filled out the upload wizard correctly, but it is a public record so it's unrestricted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Folwellla (talk • contribs) 18:52, 20 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi Folwellla. The absence of a copyright claim does not make an image free to use. Commons requires an explicit release to a free license such as Public Domain or Creative Commons (one of its free variants) directly from the copyright holder. If you know who the copyright holder is, a permission needs to be sent to OTRS for verification. --ZooFari 19:00, 20 July 2011 (UTC)

Untitled

Hi Zoofari,

Hi ZooFari,

I posted a photograph of David Graeber at his page, http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=David_Graeber&action=history

and it have been removed by you.

20:48, 19 July 2011 CommonsDelinker (talk | contribs) m (14,236 bytes) (Removing "David_Graeber.jpg", it has been deleted from Commons by ZooFari because: No evidence of permission since 12 July 2011.)

I got this photo from the owner - David Graeber, who asked me to replace the one that was there before. Maybe he can just send this photo directly to you and you can post it?

Thank you, Nika

Yes - this is David Graeber. This is the second time that pictures of me I have been removed for "lack of authorization." In each case I would happily have authorized the pictures, but nowhere is there any indication of how I could go about doing so. (After the first good picture was put up, a different one, which I never would have authorized, was substituted, and there was nothing I could do about that, either. So the system as it currently functions has nothing to do with permission of the person in the picture. If it's the photographer's permission that's lacking, allow me to note that last one is a picture I took of myself!) Would an email from my personal account saying I authorize the picture help? Where would I send it?

Yes, the permission from the photographer or copyright holder is required to host the image. If you are indeed David Graeber, you have to send a permission letter to our OTRS system. See COM:OTRS for details, which includes a pre-made layout of a permission statement. --ZooFari 15:16, 21 July 2011 (UTC)

Your deletions are too fast

You seem to be deleting images in category:Unknown too fast. The seven day period is a minimum. /Pieter Kuiper (talk) 20:19, 21 July 2011 (UTC)

What do you mean too fast? Do you propose the time period to be increased? Or do you mean the speed rate at which I delete? --ZooFari 21:36, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
I suppose you mean the rate. The process is usually simple: check thumbnails for PD-ineligible files first, then check file page, check history, delete. Other times I'll check the log from the day after it so it's easier the next day. I'll slow down anyways. --ZooFari 21:50, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
You already deleted Category:Media without a source as of 14 July 2011 in the second hour of today, the 21st. That is less than the seven-day period. And yes, I believe that especially during vacation time, a longer period should be allowed. /Pieter Kuiper (talk) 22:19, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
Commons:Deletion requests#Latest requests to be closed already lists the 14th as more than the 7 day period. The counter on the categories are based on that. --ZooFari 23:45, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
You human, don't blame the bot. What is the hurry? /Pieter Kuiper (talk) 23:56, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
What bot? -> 2024/05/03 blame the software. --ZooFari 23:59, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
I now know what you're try to say. I'll just wait 8 days then. --ZooFari 00:19, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
Ok. And I forgot to say that the current situation is much better than the terrible backlogs that these categories had until recently. /Pieter Kuiper (talk) 00:28, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
Yep, thanks, hopefully they'll stay in good condition. I've notified User:Fastily about your point, who does most of the no license files. --ZooFari 00:53, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
