Hi, there are two ways I'm aware of of renaming a file. One is to request a moderator to rename it - I believe there is a template somewhere to request this, I've never done it. For me it's easier to download a copy of the file and upload it again as the new name you've decided on. Then you request the old file to be deleted because it has a bad name : add {{badname|newname.jpg}} (e.g. {{badname|Tobruk 1942 - British Matilda tanks.jpg}}) to the page of the image to be deleted.
