problems with nl.wikipedia community and SVG images

Hi Walter, I notice you are an admin and you speak Dutch. I was wondering if you can maybe help out here. It seems like there are a lot of problems lately between nl.wikipedia and PNG flags and coat-of-arms being updated to SVG (see Commons:Village_pump#problem for the latest). We need some help so that nl.wikipedia people are happy with what we're doing, understand what we're doing and why we're doing it. At the moment it is very heated with talk of boycotting the Commons etc. I think we desparately need to improve our reputation with nl.wikipedia so I am hoping you can look into this issue and help keep it calm any way you can. Nederlandse taal op commons

Beste Walter,
Het valt me op dat er vrij vaak een verschil zit tussen de Nederlandse vertaling van MediaWiki teksten op commons en op wikipedia. Kan commons niet simpelweg de vertalingen van wikipedia aanhouden? Voorbeelden zijn discussie op commons en overleg op wikipedia, verplaats op commons en wijzig titel op wikipedia, bijdragen per gebruiker en bijdragen gebruiker. Het maakt natuurlijk niet zo veel uit, maar ik vind het simpelweg opvallend.

Ja, dat wou ik je ook juist komen vertellen. Ik moet wel zeggen dat ik de werkwijze daar totaal niet begrijp.

De oorzaak van de verschiillen is dat er een onvolledige default vertaling is die actief is op alle wikis. Dan worden los van elkaar steeds die vertalingen lokaal bijgewerkt. --Walter 20:04, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

De BetaWiki is de plaats waar centraal de localisatie van MediaWiki geregeld wordt. De boodschappen die hier aangepast worden komen terecht in de overige wikis. Aanpassingen zijn natuurlijk niet wiki specifiek. Texten die specifiek voor een bepaald project zijn, zijn hier uit den boze. GerardM 02:29, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

permissions for wikipedia logo images

Hi Walter, Who can I ask for permission to use some of the wikipedia logo images (globe etc) for use within the wikipedia (page English as well as page Assamese versions? Notice of namespace-rename "Image" -> "File"

Dear user, the MediaWiki developers recently announced that the "Image:" namespace is going to be renamed to "File:". "Image:" will remain an alias. The canonical namespace name wgCanonicalNamespace will change from "Image" to "File".

I noticed that you use wgCanonicalNamespace in either your monobook.js page or a JavaScript file in your userspace (check this list).

Please check and replace all occurrences of

wgCanonicalNamespace == "Image"

with

wgNamespaceNumber == 6

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

While this was a license acceptable in the early days of Wikimedia, since January 2006, this license has been deprecated and since October 2008 no new uploads with this license was allowed.

The license on older images should be replaced with a better and more specific license/permissions and you can help by checking the images and adding {{PD-self}} if you are the author or one of the other templates that you can see in the template on the image page.

Kuifje auto's

Hey Walter, Ik zie dat je meer auto's hebt gefotografeerd die geselecteerd waren voor een beurs omdat ze voorkwamen in de Kuifje serie. Misschien is het leuk om een categorie "Cars featured in the Tintin series" aan te maken? Makro

Hi Walter, als je gaat fotograferen in de Makro winkel lijkt het mij goed om de toestemming van de manager voor publicatie in CCBYSA vast te leggen via de procedure beschreven op VRT. Er is ook een NL versie, zie nl:Wikipedia:Contactpunt/Toestemming voor gebruik afbeelding vragen. Dit alles vanwege auteursrechten op verpakkingen en mogelijk op de inrichting van de winkel. Het zal niet meer gebeuren. Geen reactie van de Makro ontvangen op mijn e-mail. Er naar bellen ging niet meer. De Makro is nu aan het sterven. Ze hebben bescherming tegen schuldeisers gekregen en hun leveranciers willen niet meer leveren zonder contante betaling. Gisteren naar de Makro geweest. Winkel is nog open en functioneert nog als een winkel maar sommige rekken zijn leeg. En zeker in de verse voeding afdeling is het duidelijk over en uit.De schappen zijn bijna leeg of leeg.
