Help identifying a Bloomington location

Since beginning at IU, I've taken hundreds of architectural photos in Bloomington, including many around the Monroe County Public Library (for example, see Category:Sixth Street (Bloomington, Indiana), which is all my work except two of your photos), but I can't figure out where File:Bloomington - a large house near 6th St P1000038.jpg is. Could you please add coordinates to the image? If you're not familiar with any coordinate-providing websites, you can go to http://universimmedia.pagesperso-orange.fr/geo/loc.htm, which I always use. My pleasure. I have updated the description. The building actually faces Kirkwood, but is seen from 6th Ave over a parking lot. Welcome to IU, by the way - I was a student there almost 20 years ago!
Incidentally, I think that as more photos are taken around the IUB campus, it makes sense to create individual categories for the more prominent buildings, such as IMU, IUB Main Library, or Lilly Library. -- Vmenkov (talk) 15:27, 17 May 2011 (UTC)
I had wondered if it were that building, but I wasn't sure; since you've added the location, I've added all the categories from my image of the same building. While I'm frequently at the library and often walk to it along Sixth from Courthouse Square, I almost never have reason to look that direction; accordingly, the only time I pay attention to this building is if I'm on Kirkwood, meaning that I wasn't familiar with this angle. Thanks for the help! You may be interested in seeing Category:Buildings in Bloomington, Indiana, Category:Streets in Bloomington, Indiana, and their subcategories: I've been working at getting photos for all sites deemed even moderately historic (and a few others as well) by the last Bloomington Historic Sites Survey, which includes about 2,500 different properties. By the way, if you look at Category:Indiana University Bloomington campus and its Old Crescent subcategory, you'll see that there are already categories for some buildings. I don't find many of the others that interesting to photograph, so I've not been paying that much attention to them: I live off campus, so most of the campus buildings are one and the same to me. Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

I'd be most glad to find an add the individual sculptors' names, but I have had no luck finding them so far. As the monument was erected in 1969, it only has the names of the responsible organizations (Hubei Province and Wuhan City Revolutionary Committees), and of Chairman Mao, but not of the actual artists. I supposed it was no appropriate for their names to be emphasized during the Cultural Revolution era... News articles, Hudong, etc are no help either: they give dates and dimensions, but no names: http://www.hb.xinhuanet.com/photoxiu/2007-07/25/content_10670031.htm , http://www.hudong.com/wiki/%E6%AD%A6%E6%B1%89%E9%98%B2%E6%B1%9B%E7%BA%AA%E5%BF%B5%E7%A2%91 . Another request for help

I'm trying to find locations for File:E9045-Bloomington-That-Road.jpg, File:E9064-Bloomington-That-Road.jpg, and File:E9065-Bloomington-That-Road.jpg, but I can't figure out exactly where they're taken — neither Google nor the county's GIS website show any farms with silos or fields with two trees in the middle. Can you remember where on That Road these might be? I'm guessing that it's between Victor Pike and State Road 37, since everything west of 37 appears more built up, and I don't remember seeing these spots when I took That from Victor to Rogers a couple of days ago. Thanks for the help. I almost asked about another of your images before realising that the coords were below the information template; I don't know why I didn't see it on this one. I see you've added a number of images and text to various articles, for which, thank you. Picture of the Year voting round 1 open

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

  1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
  2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
  3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.
