on the description page of Image:Arachnopedia.png, please state that you created the image yourself, state the images you used as a basis and credit the authors of those images, as the GFDL requires. Please also put the image also into a category and/or on a gallery page (like Wikipedia), so it can be found and used by others. Thanks! -- Duesentrieb 12:42, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)

thanks for adding the info. However, please note that logos of wikimedia project are the only content accepted on the commons that is not necessarily under a free license. So, it may be important which version of the wikipedia logo you used - Image:Wikipedia-logo.png and de:Bild:Wiki.png state it is non-free and copyrighted by wikimedia. This would mean you can not put your image under the GFDL without asking the Wikimedia Foundation first - just ask them, they are just Wiki-People like us ;) -- Duesentrieb 23:14, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Please add your images to appropriative pages and/or categories where other users could easily find them. For example to Category:Homo.

Colourizing old photos[edit]

There can be differing opinions about colourizing old photos but I would still ask you not to overwrite existing photos with coloured versions. hi. thank you for translating. the map is unfinished. i have changed the colors (quite a lot actually). and i still have not identified the language isolates. i was going to indicate the isolates by number with an identification key on the right side. however, if you have any suggestions, i will be happy to change my plans. i currently am adjusting some of the language boundaries based on Goddard's 1996/1999 map and making the borders smoother & thinner. i guess i can copy your translations onto the map once i finish. or perhaps i can give a copy of the file. i am using The Gimp & putting all borders & labels on different levels. it is interesting that in French you use the term Shahapwailutan - it is rather old in English. peace Ishwar 23:34, 3 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Your account will be renamed[edit]

Hello,

The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.

Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Vlad2i. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Vlad2i~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.

Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
