In en:wiki this image name is requested. In my opinion Tuul Gol is much larger then depicted one. Is it possible it is a tributary? Bogomolov.PL (talk) 17:29, 10 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've re-uploaded it with a better name as File:Uliastai Gol UB.jpg, so the original one will shortly be removed as a duplicate. --Latebird (talk) 12:40, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Vidor!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

File:Train_station_Sainshand_Mongolia.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Oh no! Whatever will I do? Vidor (talk) 03:21, 24 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

See caption: please remain calm and collegial. If you follow this, new problems may not occur. Jcb (talk) 12:00, 24 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Or, I could continue to call you people out for your deletion campaign, and for weakening and damaging Wikimedia Commons. Congratulations. Keep deleting! Vidor (talk) 21:39, 24 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
And just to further note, you and yours are not applying this new rule that you dreamed up out of nowhere in anything resembling a fair and consistent manner. There are, right now, five photos of buildings on the Ulan Bator webpage. They're all hosted at Commons. There are 28 files under the category "Buildings in Ulan Bator". By your bizarre logic they all have to be deleted. In fact most, if not all, of the files in the category "Buildings in Mongolia" must be deleted. I suspect that the reason you have not done this is that more people will notice if you start deleting photos by the hundreds, as your own position demands you do. So please don't pretend that you are operating in anything remotely approaching a fair and consistent manner. Vidor (talk) 21:47, 24 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nine files under Entertainment Venues in Mongolia...all have to go. Nine files in Museums in Ulaanbaatar...eight have to go. 45 files under Mongolian yurts--just because a building is portable doesn't make it less of a building; they have to go. Lie if you want but you and yours, if you are applying the rules fairly and equitably, are going to cut a swath of destruction through the Mongolia images listed at Commons. Vidor (talk) 21:52, 24 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am not searching for files that could be possibly deleted. I just process deletions request and I try to do so as good as possible in accordance with applicable laws. The reason that some pictures can stay and others cannot, may be that we also have to take into account the Threshold of originality and the possible application of De minimis. Pictures of just another straight building may stay, for lack of originality. Also some original building may be de minimis if they just form a small part of the picture. I only delete a file if the law leaves no choice. Jcb (talk) 23:22, 24 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Nonsense. Utter nonsense. There was plenty of latitutde. I explained this at great length, including my own experience of buying postcards with pictures of buildings in them in Mongolia. There were other photographs with deletion requests. They weren't deleted. Maybe that's because Wikimedia Commons was fortunate enough to have a reviewer other than you to field that request. And you contradict yourself rather badly by talking of a "threshold of originality" and "de minimis". These require judgment calls. So you are a liar you only delete photos when you have no choice. If one interprets the Freedom of Panorama doctrine to mean that one cannot post a picture of a building in Mongolia, ALL BUILDINGS MUST GO. I guess the bright side is that you haven't chosen to do so. Better that you are a hypocrite, and only delete my image, than you actually put your theory in practice and conduct the wholesale mass deletions that it requires. Vidor (talk) 03:45, 2 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I must say, the deletionists at the commons are making me lose faith in the project. As for Mongolia, I need not say that copyright law virtually doesnt exist here. --[chinneeb|talk] 12:02, 6 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Me too. It's really quite depressing. And quite ominous for the future of any Mongolian images at Wikipedia. Despite the lies and evasions of Jcb above, by his own rules and by the rules of the deletionists all those images have to go. If they have their way there won't be any pictures of Ulaanbaatar at all, for instance, because every picture will have a building in it. Vidor (talk) 01:07, 13 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Oh, the good old days[edit]

Funny how uploading a photo to Commons for the first time in nine years reminded me of the enraging manner in which so many of my images were deleted on the most asinine of grounds. I wonder if that Jcb fellow will be able to think of a way to delete this last one. Vidor (talk) 06:14, 13 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
