There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. - Dear Lirion, this wasn’t my mistake but Yug’s: He added these links to specific Inkscape versions at 2006-07-07T14:48:50. At this time I wasn’t even active on Commons. Tip: Categorizing images
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]][[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

- The file shouldn’t contain the whole font (embedded) and as far as I know only some characters of a non-free font can’t be copyrighted. This is also the reason why I choose PD. - I know the policy on fonts of Commons but I construed that they refer to an entire typeface. The “all rights reserved” comment over the samples refers to the whole typeface and not just to a typeface sample consisting of very few characters compared to the whole typeface. But I am not 100 % sure that OpenOffice.org did only embed the visible characters and not the whole typeface. In Scribus you can choose if you want to embed the whole typeface or just only the characters used. I’ll clarify whether the whole typeface is included in File:Schriftartenvergleich.pdf or not. If so, it is clear that we have to delete this file or that I have to make another PDF without the whole typefaces in it. Furthermore I think we should ask on Commons talk:Licensing if font samples (SVG or PDF) are allowed on Commons – I would be quite surprised if they are not allowed. According to the manpage of “pdffonts”, “emb yes” means that the font is embedded in the PDF file and “sub yes” means that the font is a subset resp. that only the used characters are embedded. The fonts with “sub no” are only free fonts so I think we do not have a problem here but I have to license the file with the correct free license. Or if I get out how to embed only subsets of all fonts, PD would also be okay. It just doesn’t make sense to me that Openoffice embeds the whole typeface of certain fonts … Regards, Raphael (talk) 10:06, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

- It’s not your fault – you don’t have to apologise. I just wanted to remove the completely embedded fonts to partially embedded fonts but unfortunately I was a bit too slow finding out how to do that so that the file was deleted in the meantime … I’ve now contacted the admin that has deleted the file. Freut mich, dass du ziemlich fix die neuste Version unserer distro timeline aktualisiert hast. Danke!
Erste Frage: wieso nur PNG und nicht auch die SVG-Datei? Wird zwar nicht vom IE unterstützt, aber SVGs gibts auf Wikipedia ja zuhauf (unter anderem die Logos die wir verwendet haben).
Ich habe gelesen, dass du dich aus Wikipedia zurückziehst, deswegen ist die zweite Frage vielleicht nicht sinnvoll: Du hast letztes Jahr auch eine GLDT auf die englische Wikipedia geladen. Diese wurde aber in der Zwischenzeit "vandalisiert"...

Wie Du auf meiner Benutzerseite der deutschsprachigen Wikipedia gelesen hast, bin ich dort tatsächlich nicht mehr aktiv (eine Erklärung zu den Gründen befinden sich auch dort). Da ich zur Zeit mit meinem Studium sehr beschäftigt bin und ich Wikimedia Commons hauptsächlich verwendet habe, um Artikel in der deutschsprachigen Wikipedia zu bebildern, bin ich hier leider auch nicht mehr wirklich aktiv. (Hätte ich heute nicht zufälligerweise etwas auf Wikimedia Commons gesucht, so hätte ich Deine Antwort wohl auch nicht gesehen.) Deswegen bin ich Dir den Wunsch, die GNU/Linux-Distro-Timeline (GLDT) in allen Projekten laufend zu aktualisieren, leider auch nicht erfüllen. Ehrlich gesagt habe ich auch den Überblick über alle GLDTs nicht mehr. Frag doch mal Trac3R, ob er Dir nicht eventuell helfen kann.
- Die Kopien auf den verschiedenen Wikimedia-Projekten (englisch- und deutschsprachige Wikipedia sowie Wikimedia Commons) ergaben sich übrigens, da hier auf Wikimedia Commons eigentlich auch keine Logos akzeptiert werden, die marken- bzw. urheberrechtlich geschützt sind (bspw. das Logo von Red Hat Linux), währenddem man in der deutschsprachigen Wikipedia Logos, die keine Schöpfungshöhe besitzen, akzeptieren. (Die Tatsache, dass es auf Commons trotzdem etliche Logos gibt, ist wohl darauf zurückzuführen, dass es zu wenige Benutzer gibt, welche die Regelungen kennen, und zu viele, welche Commons mit geschützten Logos überhäufen. So ist denn auch diese kürzlich auf Commons hochgeladene GLDT-Version aus dem erwähnten Grund nicht Commons-konform.) Die GLDT-Kopie auf der englischsprachigen Wikipedia wurde übrigens nicht vandalisiert, sondern es wurde versucht, sie W3C-konform zu machen. Anscheinend ist die neue GLDT-Version jedoch konform, so dass die Version dort redundant wäre.
- In diesem Zusammenhang noch ein herzliches Dankeschön für die tolle GNU/Linux-Distro-Timeline! Es ist eine sehr praktische und anschauliche Übersicht.

- Hallo (ich antworte jetzt mal hier), also ganz allgemein werden auf Commons nur Bilder akzeptiert welche in einer Art veröffentlicht wurden, die den Commons Lizenzkriterien entsprechen. Das bedeutet vor allem: Für jeden Teil einer hochgeladenen Grafik muß die Weiterverbreitung und kommerzielle Nutzung erlaubt sein. Das ist bei (eingetragenen) Marken nicht der Fall. Und Logos sind in den meisten Fällen, ebenso wie die Markennamen selbst, eingetragene Marken. Du kannst also davon ausgehen, dass nichts was ein ® oder ™ enthält, hier erlaubt ist.
- Der Grund hierfür ist einfach, dass die Grafiken auf Commons selbst zu diesen Bedingungen verbreitet werden dürfen. Erlaubt Commons die Weiterverbreitung einer unfreien Grafik, verstößt es gegen Markenrechte und macht sich damit juristisch angreifbar. In den Wikipedias gilt nationales Recht; wie das im einzelnen aussieht, hat dir Raphael schon erklärt. Dieses erlaubt meist mehr, daher werden auch keine Grafiken automatisch von dort nach Commons hochgeladen. Auf Commons zählt der kleinste gemeinsame Nenner, d.h. unbedingt freie Inhalte.
- Du hast mich außerdem explizit zum RedHat Logo und den Logos deiner Linux Timeline Grafik gefragt. Das RedHat Logo ist so ein Fall von Fair Use und nicht-erreichter Schöpfungshöhe, wie Raphael das schon erläutert hat. Damit ist es als niedrig aufgelöste Grafik in der englischen Wikipedia unter Fair Use erlaubt es zu verwenden und in der deutschsprachigen Wikipedia in jeglicher Auflösung. Aber eben nur dort. Gleiches gilt für das Logo von Slackware und Debian (mit Schriftzug). Letzteres ist jedoch ohne den Schriftzug frei unter der Debian Logo-Lizenz und kann somit hier verwendet werden. Das ist der Grund für die Löschung, zumindest wäre das einer. Dabei ist es völlig unerheblich wie klein oder unansehnlich die Grafiken waren. Das wäre nur bei Fair Use interessant, was nur in einigen englischsprachigen Ländern gilt. Siehe auch mein zweiter Satz.
- Tux ist keine Marke, die Grafik selbst ist außerdem frei und darf somit ebenfalls verwendet werden. Allerdings nehme ich nicht an, dass eine Zeitlinie nur mit dem Debian Symbol Sinn macht, daher würde dir vorschlagen eine Grafik zu erstellen, die höchstens den Tux (und den Gnu?) enthält. Diese wäre dann Commons-tauglich. Beim Gnu musst du aber wieder aufs Copyleft achten, wenn du ihn nutzen willst. Die Lizenz für Freie Kunst und die GFDL bzw. CC-BY-SA dürften wohl miteinander nicht kompatibel sein und daher könnte es rechtlich schwierig sein, aus beidem ein Werk abzuleiten.

- Ich hab mir das ein bisschen simpler vorgestellt mit der ganzen Lizenziererei, deshalb werde ich mir noch überlegen, ob es Sinn macht, eine separate Version für Wikipedia zu erstellen (müsste das mit dem Gnu abklären, auf allen Seiten umlinken, etc).

Für einen Flyer würden wir gerne das Foto vom Kornhaus in schwarz-weiss (Abbildungsgrösse 5 x 7 cm) einmalig einsetzen. Die Einladung ist für einen Event, welcher im Kornhaus stattfindet. Der Vermieter des Kornhauses hat bereits sein Einverständnis gegebn, dass wir auf diesem Weg ein Foto suchen/beziehen.

Tip: Categorizing images
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]][[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

- Sorry for this very late reply. Apparently OpenStreetMap uses (or used) raster graphic icons, and as I exported the map and added the numbers, I wasn't aware of that. Therefore I didn't transform the icons to vector data. I've nominated the image for deletion as it isn't used anymore. (Seems that I forgot to do this the last time.) - Hi Sophie. I'm happy you like my picture! :) Unfortunately I took this picture 6 years ago with an old camera. Therefore the image has only 3.1 MP at full resolution, which is not enough for a large poster. Up to A4 (8.3 × 11.7 inches) should be fine, perhaps even A3 (11.7 × 16.5 inces), but I can't guarantee. As for photo/poster printing services, I'm afraid I can't give you any recommendations because I don't live in UK. But perhaps this video might help you.
