File:Pullikkarinkaali and Puliyoor Kaali.ogg and File:Kundati Chamundi - Purappaatu.ogg[edit]

Hello Vaikoovery, it seems your files are not transcoded to theora in a proper way (a lot of frames are lost and the bitrate is strongly to low). Recently I have seen a few similar problems in other videos on commons resulting by using vlc as transcoder. So I think it would be a nice idea to transcode it again by using ffmpeg2theora and then please update your interesting files. Using Windows you may create a simple batch file (only one line): path to/ffmpeg2theora.exe %1 --videoquality 8 --audioquality 3 . Drage and drope your video-source to it to start the transcoding process. On non windows systems you may use the same as command by replacing the %1 with path to/your videosourcefile. Hello Vaikoovery, here is a longer explanation:
 1. download the ffmpeg2theora.exe for windows
 2. create a new folder and put it there
 3. open the windows editor (not any office program), write (or copy from here):
 4. C:\Programme\Video\ffmpeg2theora\ffmpeg2theora.exe  %1 --videoquality 8 -audioquality 3 
 5. replace C:\Programme\Video\ with your local path to ffmpeg2theora.exe
 6. save the file as video.bat (you may choose another filname however the ending must be .bat), close the editor
 7. drag and drope your video(s) on this batch file.

Yes. It worked. The exe was misplaced and was not recognizing it as external or internal command. :) Thanks a lot again..

Okay, try this batch: ffmpeg2theora.exe %1 --index-interval 150 --keyint 150 --videobitrate 5000 --two-pass --soft-target --speedlevel 0 --audiobitrate 112. It is a bit rate based two pass encoding (you will notice an increasing of the transcoding time, be patient). An other way is to reduce the dimensions of the video: ffmpeg2theora.exe --width 640 --height 360 %1 --index-interval 150 --keyint 150 --videobitrate 1200 --two-pass --soft-target --speedlevel 0 --audiobitrate 112. It would be nice to get both versions on commons, the bigger one for commons and the smaller is much better to stream (useful on wikipedia: people with small internet connections have not to wait a long time to see your videos). Yes, there is this limitation. Try to calculate the highest possible bitrate you can use to produce a 100MB file. Usable for video and audio will be about 94MB. The rest (6MB) is needed for internal file structures (like video/audio synchronisation). First have a look to the playtime of your source video (in seconds). Then calculate 94MB/playtime in seconds. Example for a clip with a duration of 3 minutes: 94/180 is about 0,5222. So you can use a bitrate 5222kbs for video and audio. You should use this finding for setting the parameters in the batchfile: --videobitrate 5000 --audiobitrate 112 (or exactly for 5222kbs --videobitrate 5094 --audiobitrate 128). However you will see it will never produce a exact 100MB file. It is a approximation only. For longer videos the resulting low bitrate may produce poor quality. Then you have to resize your video (to get more coding bits/pixel). Another possibility would be to divide your file in two ore more parts. There are two more useful parameters -- starttime and --endtime (in seconds) to encode only parts of your source. At least please have a look to here to see that things may become easier in future. Location templates[edit]

  • I noticed that you asked Rodhullandemu about coordinates. Here is some information:
    • {{Location}} is {{Camera location}}. I don't know why Commons uses {{Location}} by itself as the main name for this: that is confusing. I always type {{Camera location}} to be unambiguous. This is the place that the scene is observed from; that is, the spot where the camera was. If you have a GPS camera, this is the spot that the camera will put in the photo information, of course; the camera only knows its own spot, not the spot of the things in front of it. Also, if you know what direction the camera was pointing, you can add "heading" as a parameter: I have done this to other people's photos occasionally, but it requires some work. For example, File:La Placita Church.jpg has a heading. It is described in Commons:Geocoding#Parameters. (On that church, I used "NNW" instead of a number, because my I cannot see enough to approximate the heading more precisely.) On Google Earth, Commons coordinates with headings will show up with an arrow in the proper direction.
    • {{Object location}} is where the scene in the photograph is; that is, the objects that you are photographing, or what the camera is pointing towards. People use this template because it is easy to add: It is easier to see what is in the photo than to see where the camera was. There is a disadvantage to this, however: There are usually multiple things in an outdoor photograph, and which is the "object" becomes only opinion. The further the distance is, the worse the problem becomes: If you stand on a mountain and take a picture of a city in a valley, with another mountain in the back, then which is the object — the city 10 kilometers away, or the mountain 20 kilometers away?
    • If you prefer to work with just degrees, not minutes and seconds, then there are decimal versions of the templates: {{Location dec}} or {{Camera location dec}}, and {{Object location dec}}. On Commons, the "dec" templates do not allow N, E, S, or W on coordinates: you have to use negative numbers for south or west coordinates.

Important message for file movers[edit]

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

  • To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
  • To perform file name swaps.
  • When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning.
