question...[edit]

You uploaded two maps of France's North American territories -- with mutually incompatible boundaries:

I am unaware of any French settlement on Baffin Island. WRT the settlement of Hudson's Bay, I believe the first settlements were British, dating to the founding of the Hudson's Bay Company in 1670. According to the article on the english wikipedia, some French expeditions disputed the English claim, until the Treaty of Utrecht, in 1713. Are you sure that is sufficient presence to justify claiming all of Hudson's Bay on your maps?

Your map shows French possession of all of Newfoundland. Both the English and French established settlements in Newfoundland. I don't know whether there was active conflict between these settlements. But I know some settlements remained British until independence.

File:LouisianeFrançaise01.png shows French possession of Ile Mansel at the mouth of Hudson's Bay. This island is essentially uninhabitated today, and I believe it was uninhabited then. Are you aware of any sources that assert French settlement or possession?

Can I ask how you established the eastern boundary of Louisiana? Mobile was founded by the Spanish, I believe, and was ceded to France during the Napoleonic wars. So, shouldn't that eastern boundary be whatever was the defacto boundary between the USA and Spain, at that time? Not the largest extent of the Spanish claim? I have given your maps some more thought. The upper reaches of the Missouri weren't explored until after the Louisiana Purchase. So, perhaps the western boundary should just fade out, at the edge of furthest extent of exploration during French administration? Geo Swan (talk) 06:18, 2 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bonjour.

--Karldupart (talk) 19:36, 31 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
