First steps tutorial

Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki ‒ it is really easy.

Getting help

More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (direct access). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing.

Goodies, tips and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your Graphics abilities.
  • All your uploads are stored in your personal Gallery
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~
  • Use the CommonSense tool to find good categories for your files (then other people can find them too!)
  • To link to an image page, write this: [[:Image:Foo.jpg]], it makes this: Image:Foo.jpg
  • If you're copying files from another project, be sure to use the CommonsHelper

Your image Image:Jesus BenetXVI.jpg[edit]

Hola Un valencià,
did you take the Image:Jesus BenetXVI.jpg really by yourself or is this just a photo of a photo as the artifact in the upper right corner suggests? If you take an image of a photography by someone else, you cannot claim this "own work" because it is only a derivative of the original. Al ser de nuestra propiedad no creo que tengamos que solicitar permisos No, the mere possession of an work of art, including a photography, that was made by another person, does not give you the right to reproduce and to re-publish it. While I think it is not a problem to show the paper print that you own by yourself in an exposition, you need the explicit permission of the original photographer to upload that image here. As explained above, if you take a photo of another work of art, you are producing a derivative of the original and you need the permission of the creator of the original to publish it. Faltas de ortografía[edit]

Intenta escribir sin faltas de ortografía. Obligas a los demás usuarios (Mutxamel primero y yo después) a corregirlas, con la consiguiente pérdida de tiempo. Valencia se escribe Valencia en castellano y València en valenciano. Si tienes cualquier duda, consulta cualquier diccionario normativo, que para eso están. Si, sistemáticamente como hasta ahora, lo escribes con una falta de ortografía, haces perder su valioso tiempo a los usuarios que corrigan tus ediciones, con el consiguiente perjuicio para el proyecto, lo cual es denunciable y que te podrá acarrear consecuencias. Si obligas a los demás a corregir lo que a tí no te apetece escribir correctamente, es un sabotaje como una catedral. Si no tienes clara la ortografía o gramática del valenciano o bien puedes empollarte esto, o si no estás de acuerdo con escribir en correcto y normativo valenciano, siempre puedes escribir en castellano. Buenos días. Disculpen que me meta en una conversación ajena, pero debo desautorizar a Ferb1 en esto. Commons es un proyecto multilingüe, y aunque el inglés sea el idioma "de hecho" en los aspectos comunitarios generales, en lo demás valen todos igual, y de hecho el español y el valenciano valen igual. Los archivos pueden subirse con nombres en cualquier idioma. Las descripciones también, pero para mantenerlas en orden se recomienda usar plantillas ({{es|texto}} para texto en castellano, {{ca|texto}} para texto en catalán, y {{en|texto}} para texto en inglés) Las categorías deberían llevar nombres en inglés, pero se puede traducir o explicar su nombre con esas plantillas.

Respecto al acento en Valencia, aunque es cierto que debería tenerse en cuenta la ortografía y llamar a cada cosa por su nombre en su respectivo idioma, las faltas de ortografía jamás se consideran "vandalismos". Se arreglan, sí, pero cualquier "denuncia" de "sabotage" al respecto sería desechada sin más trámite por cualquier administrador que la atendiera.
