Image sizes[edit]

Hello welcome to Wikipedia Commons, regarding Image:Fort Pitt 1795 small.jpg and Image:Fort Pitt 1795 large.jpg, usually one won't have to upload several images in different sizes, as when used in articles they are just about always used as thumbnails and may be down- or upscaled as one would please. Furthermore it will help editors to find files by linking them to a category by adding [[Category:ExampleCategory]] to them. Happy editing and contributing! Scoo 21:31, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Easter calendar[edit]

Hi, you asked User:Den fjättrade ankan about this image, Image:Påsktavla ur Liljegrens Runlära (ur Sverige Runinskrifter).png. It is a table for determining the date of the Easter, "Computus", in the Julian calendar. It has a solar cycle of 28 days and a golden number between 1 and 19. In fact, it is a kind of w:Perpetual_calendar for determining the date of the Easter. Den fjättrade ankan 19:22, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Tomcool~commonswiki!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.
