Hi, It seems that this image is a reconstitution from the original. The original is partially destroyed as shown in the image : Image:BasilII.jpg. So I wonder if this image doesn't fall under copyright. --Neuceu 15:26, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

While this was a license acceptable in the early days of Wikimedia, since January 2006, this license has been deprecated and since October 2008 no new uploads with this license was allowed.

The license on older images should be replaced with a better and more specific license/permissions and you can help by checking the images and adding {{PD-self}} if you are the author or one of the other templates that you can see in the template on the image page.

Hello, Tokle, please forgive my delayed answer to your comment on the Gelre arms of Norway - I do not often open my talk page on Wikimedia commons. In my opinion, Arnaud Bunel was the one who put this down as the arms of Magnus VII. Gelre only refers to "the king of Norway". The sources you quote say that Gelre compiled his armorial between 1370 and 1414. Magnus was deposed from the Norwegian throne 15 years before 1370, and from his Swedish throne six years before. Gelre must have been very badly informed if he meant that Magnus was the bearer of these arms and used the title "King of Norway" at the time it was compiled. His son Håkon is the more likely candidate, since he was king of Norway 1355-1380, king of Sweden 1362-64, and pretender to the Swedish throne later. These facts seem to confirm that Gelre identified Håkon as the king of Norway, not his deposed father. The fact that the arms of Norway take precedence in the union arms depicted by Gelre also point to Håkon. He was the rightful king of Norway, and only much later ascended to the Swedish throne, and for a short period. But father and son were co-regents of Norway for many years, and it is possible that they both used the same union arms. Two arguments contradict that hypothesis, however. During his time as udisputed king of both countries, Magnus seems always to have called himself "King of Sweden, Norway and Scania". For that reason, one would expect him to give Sweden the place of honour in his union arms. The other argument in favour of Håkon is that Gelre seems to have been rather well informed, and he is likely to have known that after 1364, both Håkon's and his father's claim to Sweden was disputed. Håkon was the undisputed king of Norway, and Gelre would therefore put the Norwegian arms first, and the Swedish in the inferior position, as arms of pretension only - and identify the bearer as "king of Norway".
