Image:BrockenSnowedTreesInSun.jpg Please do not simply change colors of images without contacting the author[edit]

Hi,

I regard your intend to enhance images on WikiMedia but please try to coordinate a bit with the author / uploader of the image. If your opinion of colors might diverge from the existing image you might probably upload a different version but just changing an image does not sound reasonable. I can assure you I have a analog slide which was scanned and it has exactly these blue colors and I just like the image as it is. So I reverted your change. Kind regards Andreas Tille (talk) 11:57, 1 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, sorry for this, now I'll know. I thought that pictures here are for encyclopedia so ussually they all should be as close to reality as possible--Tired time (talk) 23:32, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
There are two remarks about this:
  1. Not all people consider the encyclopedic use as the main issue of the artworks but I personally agree with you in this point - images should reflect what's real as far as possible. The problem is that no image is able to reflect what is "real" because the distortion of different lenses (reality seen through a 20mm lens looks quite different than through a 400mm lens) and the dynamic of contrasts of the photographic medium is quite different from human eyes. So what actually is "reality"?
  2. The main point is: How can you as a person who has only seen the digital image know what's real than me who has shot the image and owns the analogous slide?
If you do not want your work wasted and you like your version more, just make a copy of the image but please leave the colors of the original as they are. Andreas Tille (talk) 06:15, 12 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well I've seen snow and I know, that it's color is not dark blue, it's white. Yea yea, we can't for sure say what reality is, but don't be ridiculous, snow is white. It's like when you see a black and white photo, you don't think that it is so because reality was black and white. You don't know it for sure, but common... The same is here, assumption that it is blue because of bad white balance (I think it's common for photos of snow) is much more plausible than assumption, that snow miraculously became blue for a day. It may be little blue because it can reflect blue sky, but not THAT much.--Tired time (talk) 10:54, 12 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, reallity is that the color of the snow on the slide is blue. You say yourself that this is common for photos of snow (I know this fact). So what if you need a photo which exactly demonstrates this fact in a Wikipedia article? The images in Wikimedia can be used for several purposes and there are a lot of other images whith white snow anyway. And the fact that the image is not showing white snow did not prevent people from supporting it as a featured picture which means it defintely has its place in Wikimedia as it is. As I said: I don't mind about copies with color variants which are an interesting enhancement. So thanks for your work anyway. Andreas Tille (talk) 06:47, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I don't know if it's so just to me, but despite the fact that you reverted my edits, I still see my version there. Some kind of bug, I guess. If you see my version in Image:BrockenSnowedTreesInSun.jpg too, please reupload your version, it usually helps--Tired time (talk) 11:26, 12 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm, the image page itself shows the original colors but the featured picture page shows yours. Strange, butI think I will wait for some time - perhaps it is a caching problem. Andreas Tille (talk) 06:47, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
