Dear Wikimedian,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2022 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the seventeenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2022) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the two most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 1 will end on UTC.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Collages[edit]

Hello- this is the_ganymedian. I have been absent for a while because there was a user named Deb who criticized practically everything I did.

Anyway, I just wanted to say that I sincerely appreciate your effort in these 1970s and 1980s collages- you have done a fantastic job! And thank you for the notes in the collages “inspired by the ganymedian”, it means a lot. Keep up the good work!

If you are thinking about doing the 1960s next, you can always message me if you want to work together. Cheers! The ganymedian (talk) 15:09, 15 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for praise my collages inspired by you, also I'll see if I can make collages from 1960 to 1969. The0Quester (talk) 17:09, 15 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
My thoughts are that maybe the collages can be 4-6 pictures instead of 8 because there may not be as many notable events in the 60s. The ganymedian (talk) 18:12, 15 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think so.I've been following this project since you started it in August 2022. Before I passed the IP exemption, I made many collages in private.I realized that if I make collages according to your selection criteria, I can actually make a collage of 16 grids for each year from 1950 to 2022. Nagae Iku (talk) 08:40, 31 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also, 1991, 1992, and 2001 don't have collages currently because people have removed them. I made collages for those years but there have been some rather mean and defensive people on those years. The ganymedian (talk) 18:25, 15 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Quester. I didn't know that you wanted to make those collages, sorry. The only ones left are 1962-64, and I do not want to do them, so you can do them however you like. Thanks for correcting the color on my collages! The pictures would look ugly without your help. DementiaGaming (talk) 20:46, 30 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hola!😊[edit]

I have been following the progress of the year collage work since August 2022. I love this project so much. However, I only recently passed the IP exemption application.Hope to work with you on collage making in the future. I just finished my 1966 collage, unfortunately you beat me to it, but that's okay, I hope you and other Wikipedians can objectively evaluate which collage is better. Finally, I hope we can make collages to the 50s together,or even earlier. Nagae Iku (talk) 18:23, 27 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your contribution to the collage, The0Quester. Every time I made a suggestion, you quickly created a new version of the collage. I don't know how to thank you enough. The quality of your collages is very high, and the slightly flattened format of 930x840 is also very pleasing to the eye. Nagae Iku (talk) 08:45, 13 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

quick fix on the 2022 Collage[edit]

can you change the image representing the assassination of Shinzo Abe to this https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:State_Funeral_of_Shinzo_Abe_20220927.jpg as it better represents it. 4me689 (talk) 21:23, 2 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

3 of its images have Creative Commons Share-Alike licences, yet you have released it into the public domain. This seems like it might be licence laundering. --Grey Clownfish (talk) 01:36, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
