Hello, TaleleOrot!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Israel highway signs[edit]

Greetings, Wikipod! I noticed that you have been uploading new versions of Israel highway numbering signage. Rounding the corners is more in keeping with the actual signs. Well done. I do have a problem however with the color blue which you chose. I actually looked closely at a (shoulder height) roadside sign with my laptop in hand and running MS Paint. The color on the sign was virtually pure blue (see Highway 1 sign: File:Israel-blue-highway-sign.png), not the beautiful Dodger Blue which you used. (Are you originally from Los Angeles?) If you find blue signs on GoogleStreetViews (taken on an overcast day, ie. with diffuse lighting) you will see the same. Many Traffic Circle signs use a lighter blue, but the Road Number signs are as I have detailed. I hope it would not be asking too much if you could adjust the colors of the blue signs which you created. Kind regards, --@Efrat (talk) 12:19, 25 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Efrat! Thanks a lot. I tried to use much closer color to the real signs. I just took some pictures of the signs and this was the closest color I achieved. But, you may be right and I just did'nt take the images with the best lighting. I'll try again but it should take some time. Is this color used in LA signs? I'm originaly from Israel :) Wikipod (talk) 12:37, 25 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Of course, the best way to check is to hold a colorimeter up to a sign. My method, standing on the side of the road with a laptop and MS Print is about as close as you could get. The pure blue depicted in File:Israel-blue-highway-sign.png is what I got (hex #0000FE6 / R0 G0 B254). And no, I wasn't talking about LA signs. I was referring to the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team. Your blue (hex #005A9E / R0 G90 B158) is almost identical to their uniforms (hex #005596 / R0 G85 B150). lol --@Efrat (talk) 13:56, 25 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
lol sorry for my lack of knowledge with baseball matters :) I tried to check some more traffic signs in Google street view, but I still got similar color to my blue.. I'm now checking some more. Can you give me a link for image showing your color? it will be great Wikipod (talk) 14:27, 25 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know how well calibrated your computer screen's color palette is. Mine is as true as it gets. Trust me when I say -hex #0000FE6 / R0 G0 B254-.
Take a look at this GoogleStreetView The "50" emblem was posted about a year ago using the latest takanun / תקנון. Even accounting for the haze, note how the number emblems are considerably darker than the lighter blue background in the rest of the sign.
Also take a look at לוח התמרורים של משרד התחבורה. See page 44. If you do not see hex #0000FE6 / R0 G0 B254, then the next step is to calibrate your computer screen's color palette OR buy a colorimeter and stop along the roadside and measure! (I'm sure you're not going to do that so, all I can say is, trust me).
By the way, apart from the true color of our Israel highway signs, Dodger blue just so happens to be one of my favorite colors. Kind regards, --@Efrat (talk) 04:17, 1 August 2013 (UTC)--@Efrat (talk) 12:06, 28 July 2013 (UTC)--@Efrat (talk) 18:09, 25 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

So, have you looked at the true blue color of the signs and the latest תקנון of the mot.gov.il?. If you are too busy, I will be glad to adjust the colors to hex #0000FE6 / R0 G0 B254. I don't want to make the change until you are satisfied with the decision. Kind regards, --@Efrat (talk) 12:06, 28 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yap.. i saw that the color in the Signs Manual is much closer to R0 G0 B254, but im not sure they really mean this color is the right blue (Be sure the people who wrote this manual are not the same people who decide about color standards there. The guys who wrote this probably chose the first blue they found) So, i sent Ministry of transportation a question about this issue, a now all we need is wait a get an answer. I know it sometime take long time to get answered so we'll wait 2 weeks, and if we will not get an answer i "let" you change the pictures color to R0 G0 B254. :) Wikipod (talk) 12:33, 2 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
On page 2 of לוח התמרורים של משרד התחבורה, it says "צבעו של התמרור יהיה כמפורט בלוח התמרורים" I take that to mean that the people who wrote the manual chose the colors based on the standards and that those colors are official. As for two weeks for an answer, you are quite optimistic, Wikipod. Maybe two months, if ever. Anyway, we'll talk in two weeks. Kind regards, --@Efrat (talk) 10:01, 4 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

שביע טוב , Wikipod! It's been two weeks. Any response from MOT? --@Efrat (talk) 08:34, 18 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Shavu'a Tov, @Efrat! No answer from MOT. Can you start upadating the files? i'll join later, i'm just too busy right now... Wikipod (talk) 13:36, 20 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Done! Notify me if MOT gives a more precise description. Kind regards, --@Efrat (talk) 17:30, 20 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

עוד בעיה - I noticed that you changed File:ISR-HW2022.png and File:ISR-HW4000.png from Brown to Black. According to לוח התמרורים של משרד התחבורה, עמ' 44, local roads are, indeed, supposed to be signed in Black. However, as an example, a recent Google Street Views photo shows the sign in the familiar Brown. I have not seen any local road signs in Black. Have you? Perhaps this תקנון has not yet been put into practice in the field. Do we change all Brown signs to Black, or stay with Brown until such time as most road signs in the field are actually changed? --@Efrat (talk) 11:26, 21 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
דרך אגב, האם אתה מעדיף שנשוחח בעברית או שנמשיך באנגלית - כך שרוב קהילת הויקיפדים יוכל לעקוב אחרי שיחותינו? --@Efrat (talk) 11:26, 21 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I think we can stay using English. Thanks for the updates! About the color of local roads signs - indeed until 2010 the color was brown, but in 2010 MOT published new version of לוח תמרורים that in it the color changed to black. So in practice, signs placed before 2010 was brown and those placed after 2010 are black. Some examples for black signs from GoogleSV : [3] and [4]. I also saw many in the reality. Regards, Wikipod (talk) 12:08, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
What the ....? Nobody asked me if I like black. Oh well! --@Efrat (talk) 12:29, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
