HQ Official photos[edit]

Hey, I really appreciate your work uploading many high resolution official portraits of new members of Congress. I myself am attempting to upgrade the quality level of many Congressional photos, and I was wondering what method you use/would recommend for obtaining them, since so far I haven't had much success. Thanks. Politicsfan4 (talk) 07:32, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

could help you find some but i think the older it gets, the harder it may be as they don't have their own personal website to upload these images too..google is your friend..haha.. Stemoc 10:08, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Stemoc: Thanks for the reply. Essentially, I was wondering the method you used for obtaining high quality versions of basically just new members of the 118th Congress. I’ve tried to Google them and so far I haven’t had any luck. Also, I’ve looked at the official congressional websites and the images on there are super low quality. I would love a source for high resolution images. Thanks again. — Politicsfan4 (talk) 01:44, 9 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
you would notice its mainly the republican senators ones which are Low Quality as they didn't follow the proper protocol and tried changing their image a few times thus the system on their house.gov only has a record for a low quality image, one example is Katie Britt as her image doesn't follow the proper protocol (https://www.britt.senate.gov/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Britt-Initial-1.jpg), all we get is a low quality image and i notice every senator with "initial" in their filename turned out be of poor quality, but kingofthedead was able to fix that so he may know how....i have been going through flickr/official ".gov" sites and web archive to pull out HQ images before they got overwritten on their official site or replaced but no such luck with a lot of them.. sorry Stemoc 02:54, 9 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Stemoc: Thank you so much. I appreciate the replies. I'm gonna try to use this method in the future but I'm still kinda confused as to how it works. An example would be File:Rep. George Santos Official Portrait.jpg, which you were able to upgrade. I've checked the image on his webpage ([1]), which is low quality, and even the first web archive snapshot is still low quality. Also, he doesn't have a Flickr. What method do you use to extract an image here? Thanks. -- Politicsfan4 (talk) 03:27, 9 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
oh that, i thought you meant older ones from the last decade, looks like you figured that out yourself.. Stemoc 04:38, 9 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yep. thanks! -- Politicsfan4 (talk) 05:21, 9 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Request[edit]

Hello.

Can you write in the English section of the desciption box in File:2023 Turkey Earthquake Damage.jpg, that the collapsed building is "The wreckage of the collapsed Galeria Mall in Diyarbakır, Turkey."

Autopatrol given[edit]

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. Kadı Message 08:10, 8 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

figured Licenced Reviewers already had autopatrol rights thus why it was removed from mine once i became a licenced reviewer.. Stemoc 08:19, 8 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your kind words but it is not my real name but only the names of my grandparents.....a pseudonym in practice. However, it makes my heart cry when I see that they put up these pictures and take down mine because they are mine. Sorry to bother you.[2] 151.35.18.195 18:10, 22 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

-- Blackcat 18:53, 17 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

On discussion style[edit]

You might want to strike part of your posting of 06:13 UTC today on Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Buckingham Palace Reception (5 May 2023).

Your comment may be seen as libel or whatever. It also does not help keep Commons a civil place. I think anybody can drew their own conclusions from the discussion (e.g. I don't share your interpretation and your posting indeed does not convince me – although I agree on there being a problem).

If you think you need to raise the point, post it at their user page or Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/User problems, and be careful about how you word it.

LPfi (talk) 15:44, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have been dealing with this person for over a year now and he has constantly proven to not understand copyright laws, constantly mass uploading from flickr without following proper protocol or guidelines, consistently ignoring other people comments regarding his actions in terms of filing DR and speedy's and even got banned from doing DR's so he logged out and still kept doing it and when he was caught, one of his 'friend' admins just gave him a 2 week block for something other admins would have given a minimum of 6 months to permaban and because they refused to ban him, this week he did something far worse, I'm sorry but this is getting out of hand, I have been talking to photographers privately over the years to get them to release images freely via flickr and even facebook and here we have someone who has gone one step further and is pestering photographers to get what he wants, what he is doing borders on harassment cause anyone reading the 2 sets of emails posted will tell you that its definitely not written by the same person, so someone here is lying and professional photographers/people do not reply to an email like that, I explicitly in my "keep" comment on that DR said that he should not be the one to message the photographer for cality it but again, he never listens to anyone and acts like he runs this project which now questions the validity and truth of his e-mail and the reply by the "supposed" photographer. You want to keep commons civil?, BAN people who constantly keep abusing the project and breaking Wikimedia's ToU..Now we have to question his other DR's cause this may not be the first time he has done this... Stemoc 16:23, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am just saying that this should be brought up on the user talk page (where I did comment on one case, noting the background) or at Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/User problems (which seems the better venue at this stage) – with careful wording. Keeping civil even in front of grave misconduct is important, as then you can concentrate on effective measures instead of making an impression of somebody just messing around. Use the right fora and have a night's sleep before posting. –LPfi (talk) 16:36, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
nah i don't get involved in C:ANU cases unless i'm part of it, I see Andy has brought it up here already but if you are wondering why I think he is dangerous to this project, you should see his other DR... Stemoc 16:56, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

ok thanksKriddl,sorry --2A01:8640:11:1:0:0:2E6:F3CD 23:36, 6 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am not into this subject, but to deny a global ban means not automaticly, that a project is not allowed to block or delete. Marcus Cyron (talk) 23:36, 6 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your reply, But to delete photos, unless there is a copyright issue, shouldn't consent be sought? Or does an admin do as he or she pleases? [6] 2A01:8640:11:1:0:0:2E6:F3CD 23:39, 6 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
jesus saw 6 red notifications and thought i was blocked or something lol..anyhoo..I do agree admins should not be deleting your images even though you are socking lol as you were not blocked for your image uploads and are not globally banned, i see no reason as to why any deletion should be taking place, I know sockpuppets who uploaded thousands of images via flickr whose uploads are still there and some getting widely used, again i think the policy for this has been to block and move on, the use of "LTA" pisses me off, we use to reserve that term for the most vile of people on the projects, now its get used around for everyone.. not sure what i can do, I wield no power lol but yeah i'd support those images being restored..i don't know why admins think blocking and deleting contributions would get rid of people, all it does is infuriates them and makes things worse... and then they become LTA..lol... Stemoc 01:01, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, there is a procedure for deleting images and you have to ask the community otherwise what community would it be? The global ban was also denied but then what is the point if an administrator does as he likes? It doesn't seem fair to me! Thank you for your reply, however it's not the first time he's done this, he doesn't care about the community! Thanks again. 151.19.253.180 01:07, 7 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Comment Unsure about why I was mentioned here, but I do not think high-quality photographs should be deleted, even if they were uploaded by long-term abusers. Weston Library Opening by John Cairns 20.3.15-139.jpg[edit]

Thanks for raising the issue about this file's source information. At the time I uploaded the image I was a staff member of the Bodleian Libraries (their Wikimedian In Residence), authorised to release their intellectual property on Wikimedia. John Cairns was contracted to take photographs for the Bodleian Libraries for an event that was held there. How should I indicate that in the source field of the image? MartinPoulter (talk) 10:01, 19 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

the issue is that it clearly says "John Cairns 2015" in the copyright holder section so we may need a clearance via VRT as the photographer has added other images for the event over the years and we don't know their copyright status as well and since the cropped image of Sir David Attenborough has been used across wikimedia, we may need to clear this issue, i looked through the bodelian librairies adn could not find his exact image thus why the source issue is also important.. Stemoc 03:35, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I think I can get a permissions email to VRT but it will take time; it won't be done by this Friday. Can the speedy deletion be put on hold while that's resolved? MartinPoulter (talk) 10:28, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
if you send the permission request via VRT , a VRT bot will tag the image and then admin won't delete it, its not really under my control Stemoc 23:45, 21 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
