Badname should only be used when both images are identical and the image you placed the template on was uploaded by you. If the image is identical but not uploaded by you use Duplicate instead. Please bare in mind that if an image is in a different file format (for example svg and png) they can never be identical. Finally, if you want an image to be renamed but it has not yet been uploaded with the new filename it is suggested you use Rename. Thank you. Lcarsdata 20:07, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I updated it. Thank you!

There are also other cases - see Commons:Redesigning the upload form for more details. thanks, pfctdayelise (说什么?) 03:29, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That's fair enough if it's too much work right now -- it is a lot of work -- but I don't think it makes sense to change the link until all the parts are translated. It is confusing to follow a link and have the content suddenly jump back into English, don't you think? cheers --pfctdayelise (说什么?) 02:04, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image deletion warning Image:Isl Krone.JPG has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file.
In all cases, please do not take the deletion request personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Wikimedia Iceland[edit]

Hello! Not only do I make logos for Wikimedia chapters, but I am also the chapters coordinator for the Wikimedia Foundation. As such, do not hesitate to contact me if you have any question whatsoever concerning the setting up of a chapter, I am at your disposal for any question about it. It would be great if you could start a Wikimedia Iceland page at:

even if you don't have much to put on it, add your name and that of the people who are working on the chapter and a link to the project where you are working on the chapter. In the longer run, I suggest you work on meta rather than on a specific project, so as to make sure that all people who could be involved in the chapter process can be involved.

More info on chapters and chapter creation can be found here:

It is essential to read these documents so as to make sure you understand the process and don't miss a step.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me at dmenard[at]wikimedia[punto]org or to contact the m:chapters committee at chaptercommittee-l AT wikimedia DOT org.

Churches on Iceland[edit]

Just a tip: it might be possible to get the Church of Iceland to release these pictures under cc-attribution, the Church of Norway was very positive when we approached them [2] (If indeed the Church of Iceland own these images at kirkjan.net, as with most Norwegians my Icelandic has been kind of rusty the last 800 years so I didn't even try do look for copyright explanations...) Finn Rindahl 10:24, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I asked the one that runs the site, and he was not ready to release it under PD or any such license because he didn't have the copyright to do so. The icelandic church dosn't run this site, but I'll ask if they have other pictures that they could "give" us. --Steinninn 19:47, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I half expected that, despite what I wrote above I did have another look around and dechiffered something that (I think) indicated that the photographers held copyright. Anyway, it seem's a quite a number of the churches on Iceland have been photographed and made available by yourself and Commons:WikiProject Kirkjur á Íslandi, keep up the good work ;) Finn Rindahl 22:41, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:CIMG321.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use cc-by-sa-3.0 to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Hi Steinninn,

The point of the edits to MediaWiki:Upload-url/is and MediaWiki:Upload-url/de was so that I could change the English menu URL, which is at MediaWiki:Upload-url, without having every other language change the link target as well. The point was so that other languages could be changed when they finished their translations. If German and Icelandic are complete, just let me know and I will run the bot to update all the other system messages, then those messages can be updated. MediaWiki:Mainpage is already one of the messages that gets updated when I run the bot. --pfctdayelise (说什么?) 10:38, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Administrative notice[edit]

Deutsch

Dear Steinninn/Archive1. I am writing to you to inform you that because of inactivity, you may lose your adminship on Commons.

Commons has a new policy on admin activity, Commons:Administrators/De-adminship, taken into use on June 13, 2007 (after a two-week poll on the proposed policy's talk page).

If you want to keep your adminship, you have to sign at Commons:Administrators/Inactivity section within 30 days. Note that if you don't make 5 admin actions in the following 5 months, you will then lose the adminship anyways.

Thank you,
abf /talk to me/ 11:18, 31 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Steinninn/Archive1. Because you have been inactive for a long period and you have not signed at this page in the last month you lost your adminship on Commons (->meta-request). If you want to be sysop again, please start a new RfA.
Thank you for your long and helpfull work on Commons! abf /talk to me/ 12:52, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tags updated; 2 photos missing Casey56 (talk) 00:36, 29 December 2008 (UTC)[edit]

I put in the rest of the tags on photos you posted on "Imagine Peace Tower" (and edited a few existing ones to make consistent with the new others) but two of the photos aren't showing. I think #13 was showing initially (check "jpg" vs "jgp"), but #24 never was showing. Perhaps you can reload them.

Thanks. I fixed the #13 but can't find #24. --Steinninn ♨ 03:07, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for fixing #13. I'm going to Iceland next week and will take a photo of #24 and either post it myself or send to you to do so. I'll probably take pictures of all panels, and perhaps they'll be more distinct than in the images -- somebody else's I think -- you posted. But what's really needed for good photos of these intaglio carvings is a flash unit off to the side rather than on the camera.
Unfortunately while doing the fix we lost my carefully added descriptions giving the name of each language in English (the language of this WikiCommons page) and in the word or script in the language itself. Please consider reverting these. I think they're more useful to the viewers of this page.
Note that I've also added the actual wording, again in the language script where I could do so, on the main wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imagine_Peace_Tower

Hello, Steinninn!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Please help replace this outdated license[edit]

Hello!

Thank you for donating images to the Wikimedia Commons. You have uploaded some images in the past with the license PD. While this was a license acceptable in the early days of Wikimedia, since January 2006, this license has been deprecated and since October 2008 no new uploads with this license was allowed.

The license on older images should be replaced with a better and more specific license/permissions and you can help by checking the images and adding PD-self if you are the author or one of the other templates that you can see in the template on the image page.

Thank you for your help. If you need help feel free to ask at Commons talk:Licensing or contact User:Zscout370.

The images we would like you to check are:

Thanks for uploading File:1isknew mynt front.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Notification about possible deletion[edit]

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

ArchiveBot[edit]

Hi, I noticed you have set up User:MiszaBot to archive your talk page. Unfortunately, the bot has stopped working, and given how its operator is inactive, it is unclear when/if this will fixed. For the time being, I have volunteered to operate a MiszaBot clone (running the exact same code). With that said, your input would be appreciated at Commons:Bots/Requests/ArchiveBot 1. Pay attention to copyright
File:KR-heimilið-zoom.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

Thanks for uploading File:Grindavik eruption 14 januar 2024.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you.
