Oficina Inglesa[edit]

Oficina Inglesa is a family-run furniture brand established in 1987 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It has three branches situated in the Leblon area of Rio de Janeiro, the Jardins region of São Paulo and the company is also represented in the UK through a London showroom in Islington’s [Design Centre].

History[edit]

Oficina Inglesa was founded by Jarbas Alves in Rio de Janeiro in 1987. Initially positioned as dealers of English style furniture and antiques – the name Oficina Inglesa means English Workshop in Portuguese – Oficina Inglesa has quickly gained acclaim amongst interior designers in Rio de Janeiro in the 1980s for its range of classic furniture designs.

Oficina Inglesa - Rio de Janeiro

In Rio de Janeiro, Oficina Inglesa collaborated in award winning projects across the region, working with important Brazilian interior designers in prime residential projects, contributing to positioning Oficina Inglesa as a leading player of the luxury furniture industry in Brazil. Oficina Inglesa Rio de Janeiro has been in Leblon's Ataulfo de Paiva since 1998. Ataulfo de Paiva is an address revered throughout Brazil for its wealth of elegant stores, exclusive brands, designer fashion, luxury goods and interior products.

As the trends in classic design evolved in the 1990s and moved to French furniture, Jarbas Alves introduced French designs to Oficina Inglesa’s ever expanding product catalogue, importing furniture from Paris to Brazil. The new French designs included styles such as Louis XV, Louis XVI, Directoire, Regency, Empire and others; and the pieces were crafted using French woods such as French Cherry wood, or Merisier, and Oak wood.

Oficina Inglesa - Sao Paulo

In 2010, following a growing demand from Sao Paulo interior designers and private clients, Oficina Inglesa opened its first branch in Sao Paulo at Alameda Ministro Rocha Azevedo, in the exclusive Jardins area of Sao Paulo. Boasting a large floor, the Sao Paulo branch serves the wealthy clientele of the entire Sao Paulo state, as well as other markets in Latin America.

London Showroom[edit]

Ever since, Oficina Inglesa London has worked in partnership with well known and award winning interior designers in acclaimed projects in the United Kingdom and abroad, quickly establishing a solid reputation for classic designs entirely crafted by hand and made bespoke for each client.

The company offers a comprehensive bespoke service through its own workshop in Europe and a team of in-house classicly trained product and interior designers, enabling clients to customise any of their designs or commission entirely new pieces through drawings, sketches or photographs.
