Predatory publishers
Not really sure if this is of interest to you, but Beall's list got attacked and shut down by some of the publishers who were listed on it. There was an article published a year ago that identified predatory journals listed in Scopus. It has since been "retracted."
If you click on the link for "retracted" it will explain why. None of the reasons appear to indicate that these scholars were wrong in their identification of the predatory journals.
There is a new study that just came out that points to predatory practices at a huge new publisher called MDPI. I am sure that this article will be "retracted" before long for the same reasons.
It's impossible to develop a list/database of predatory publishers because some predatory publishers will do everything possible to get the list/database taken down.
And then you have the problem of what I called DIY journals that are not predatory in a financial sense, but that are predatory in that they have poor peer review policies. There is no list/database for such journals at all.
As you've discussed sourcing with me perhaps you have an opinion on this. Feel free to message me by e-mail or on a talk page on another Wikimedia website. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 10:59, 22 June 2022 (UTC)

Question
Hello,
How exactly were you able to upload all the Library of Congress photos in, for example, gallery2014-2 that quickly? Because I happen to know it would take me too long to download each of them to my computer and then upload them to Commons using UploadWizard, as I did with this photo. Shāntián Tàiláng (talk) 15:56, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
- yes, upload wizard is designed for own works. does not work for mass uploads. i was using mass upload tools such as com:commonist (now broken), Commons:VicuñaUploader, and now Commons:Pattypan which uses a spreadsheet to wrangle the metadata. believe it or not i did download these images before uploading. i'm afraid that assumes a high speed connection. the remote upload was a feature of Commons:GLAMwiki Toolset (now unsupported). user:Fae did some mass uploads from library of congress, using a python script. there is also Commons:OpenRefine but that is advanced. you may get some help on the commons telegram group, or at GLAM-wiki facebook group, but not much help here. cheers. --((( S ))) ‽ εκδίκηση του Ράμα 23:08, 5 July 2022 (UTC)
