VImages page

I fully support the creation of a such page, as I posted anonymously on the Village pump of January 30 (Section "For a FEncyclopedicPC page").

By example, you can take a look on the 2007 best images :

Finalists
Finalists

All are artistic, no one scheme is in the top-20, this show the artistic-biase on commons. The first "true" encyclopedic images is only 32th (see here), meaning that 31 out of the 32 first images are not clearly educative ones. This is beautiful, but really far from wikipedia objectives.

I also notice to you

  • The graphic Labs (:en:WP:GL) : which aim to improve and create images, to give them a more serious looking ;
  • the French test of a photographic lab : fr:WP:AP, which give really basic advices to make better encyclopedic pictures, and aim to make grow the upload of professional encyclopedic photographies.

Hi Y_g, I'm glad you like the proposal, and I do agree the POTY finalists were dominated by artistic/cute images more than truly valuable images. I do not agree though that none of the finalists are educative. I will not go into detail with that here though. But I understand what you mean. I am aware of the wikipedia sites you mentioned. I think they are good at encouraging the type of marial VI is about. One thing I would like to clarify though is that this project is not solely about images with encyclopedic value. It is broader: It is about images of value for all Wikimedia projects. Be it WikiNews, WikiSpecies, Wiktionary, Wikiversity, etc., etc. -- Slaunger 21:34, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

coloured border

Hi. Check out this for a coloured border. Parser functions are quite interesting here! Lycaon 21:16, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Great, Lycaon! Thank you for helping me out on this one! I think this is the right time for me to get acquainted with the {{#switch:}} Parser function. I'll implement it right away! -- Slaunger 21:35, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
Got, it, finally! -- Slaunger 22:43, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Valuable Images

Thx :) Przykuta 09:32, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi again :) Could you look on these images: pl:Wikinews:Wikinews Press Photo/Finał - if you want - vote for the best ilustration of these events. Best regards Przykuta 22:30, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Barnstar!

The Original Barnstar
This is for all your time, effort, and hard work creating Commons:Valued images candidates. It's coming along great! Thank you very much. - Rocket000 11:28, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
Another one! What a pleasant surprise, thank you very much! Progress is not as fast as I had hoped, my time is limited and I have had to learn about templates, magic words, MedieaWiki details etc. from scratch. But this is certainly an encouraging pad on the shoulder.-- Slaunger 12:17, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

Sorry

When I was in Mayakovsky Park, I made several more beautiful images. Nominate their intention is not, but ask to see. Here they are (as supplemented by new downloads):

  • Image:Uninhabited house.JPG (very beatiful)
Yes, it is a nice subject, but it is distracting that you did not get the top of the small house included in the frame. The photo also seems a little tilted. As has been mentioned I think you could benefit from using a tripod - even a small cheap one would be good I think.
  • Image:Wheel overview.JPG
Yes, i noticed this one already. It is quite good, although you could benefit from having a longer shutter time and/or a better camera. It is noisy.

Are you familiar with Commons:Photography critiques? this is the forum to use if you just would like some feedback on your photographs and some hints at how you can improve them.

Cheers, -- Slaunger 10:55, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

May I please ask for your help?

Hi, Slaunger,
I created the nomination for the valuabale images here, but for some reason I cannot add it to the list. May I please ask you to explain to me what I'm doing wrong. Thank you for your time.--Mbz1 00:11, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi Mila. Sure, you are welcome. You have not done anything wrong. It turns out that I have an error in the template for the image page which you copy when adding a nomination. I have corrected that error in your nomination and added it to the candidate list. You are the first person who has actually tried to use the FPC-like add nomination procedure, some further adjustments may be needed as well. And thank you for taking your time to make a test nomination. -- Slaunger 12:03, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

It is me, who should thank you,Slaunger, for all the work you're doing for valuabale images.--Mbz1 14:33, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

The error in {{VIC-add-nomination}}, which caused the problem is now corrected (I hope). So, for future nominations it should work alright. -- Slaunger 12:28, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
