Unblock request granted This blocked user asked to be unblocked, and one or more administrators has reviewed and granted this request. Request reason: "My account was blocked on August 8th by the user Ellin Beltz. I am not a sockpuppet of Aliases Zahir. I uploaded a picture of Mounir Majidi on 2014 August 23rd. This was my own work and I can prove it by sending the original picture (the one I've uploaded was resized). I have no reason to be blocked. My original description did not mention "Selim Belmaachi." That was a recent addition by a sockpuppet account who sought to vandalized my picture." "(Même image, format portrait)" as original upload comment on 23 October 2014 shows that uploader was aware of the controversy. On 8 August the image was deleted and subsequently reuploaded by MontanaChatel. I request clarification of why you considered the image to be a Meme image at that time. I am not in any way opposed to unblocking you, I merely want to know why you thought the image was a Meme at that time, if it was indeed your own photo? Thank you. @Ellin Beltz: , @Hedwig in Washington: When I said « même image, format portrait » (in French), it means that it’s the same image than before (“même” means “same” in French) but I changed the format (resized). It’s not “a meme image” as English people can understand it. At that time, there was no controversy. It seems that during the last months, someone tried to vandalize the image of Mounir Majidi on Wkimedia and Wikipedia (some IP changed his name to “Selim Belmaachi”). I don’t know who is "Selim Belmaachi" but I can assure you that the picture is a real portrait of Mounir Majidi. (Simonchocot)

Simonchocot Thank you for your very clear statements about who you are and are not. To answer the one question you posted before moving on: ... How your account could be older than "Aliases Zahir"... I didn't look at the oldest account when I reversed the vandalism. There were over three dozen accounts and I didn't find all of them even at first. So since I had to have a working name for the problem, I chose one of the various names to represent the cluster of users. "Aliases Zahir" was the most memorable.

Back to the present ... While I generally agree with duck and there were a lot of names associated with Aliases ... I find myself conflicted due to the politeness and sincerity of the user in their Unblock request. I'm going to lean to COM:AGF, the lack of magic pixie dust, the politeness and sincerity above and Unblock Simonchocot.

I request other admins to consider not restoring the image. I am concerned that having a PD image of this subject on Commons will further the prank - of which the point is unknown and the perpetrators still uploading. The point may be to prank this user - or the subject of the image. Until that becomes clear, I think we need to consider the personality rights of the subject and avoidance of potential for griefing. I urge Simonchocot to upload other images of less controversial subjects. Perhaps an understanding of the cause or source of the vandalism may also become clear with time.
