Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.

Position of "Extracted from"-Template[edit]

Hi SierraTangoCharlie1, the template for the souce picture can be used in the "source ="-part of the information-template as well as in the "other_versions"-part. @Fæ: Hello, I am not the original uploader of these files, I have merely either rectified vulgar comments from metadata or removed watermarks. @Fæ: what I mean is .. this deletion should not reflect in my edits count as a deletion. As I am not the main uploader of these images, I have merely tried to help out and it was I who brought the matter of the useless metadata of filmytadka to the HelpDesk and even tried to rectify it by deleting the offending data and re-uploading the files. @Fæ: Unfortunately, I don't see the merit in having these file deletions show up against my account. Infact I'm sure they won't even show up against the admin who approved their LicenseReview(if any). But anyways, this is something that is out of my control and has only resulted in making me cautious about contributing via cleanups. Thank You. VFC notifies everyone who appears in the filehistory and makes no judgment about the nature of those changes. Being notified is a courtesy, it's not intended to be a warning.

You may find User talk:Fæ/talk page trimmer interesting, it helps these notices look more like polite notices rather than big warnings. --Fæ (talk) 10:45, 22 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Fæ: .. I'm not worried about the notification. My main bone of contention is that these images were reviewed and verified as CC-BY and thus were edited by me in good faith to remove problems (be it watermark or vulgar content in metadata). I am now being made aware that these images might all be SUSPECT and deleted and what irked me was that this deletion might reflect on my global contributions page. That's all. Anyways my PC crashed 😔, looks like I won't be making much edits anyways, till I fix it. -- STC1 (talk) 11:56, 22 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Good luck with the PC. My old laptop can't cope with hot weather and would often crash overnight when running scheduled tasks. It's an X220 which you can buy off eBay for around £120, but makes for an excellent backup machine with basic apps running on it. --Fæ (talk) 12:00, 22 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Fæ: - well it took almost 2 weeks but got it fixed, had to reinstall windows10. spent 1 week trying to repair the old HHD. then just gave up (it was frustrating, Linux repairs are more straightforward), then had to wait for a new HDD/SSD to be delivered. the pc is now undergoing data recovery from the old HHD(which surprisingly is fully accessible, but just won't boot into windows). Thankx for the "Good Luck" - might have helped. thought would update ya. STC1 (talk) 14:43, 6 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Вікі любить пам'ятки 2021 в Україні / Wiki Loves Monuments 2021 in Ukraine[edit]

Привіт!

З 1 по 30 вересня вже традиційно пройде українська частина міжнародного фотоконкурсу «Вікі любить пам'ятки»! В Україні цей конкурс пройде вже вдесяте. На конкурс можна подавати власні фото пам'яток історико-культурної спадщини України — і змагатися за призи. Більше можна прочитати за посиланням.

Радимо ознайомитися із детальними правилами, а також із відповідями на часті питання. Як і того року — у номінації «За найбільшу кількість сфотографованих пам’яток» можна отримати 21 бал за фотографії об'єктів, якщо світлин цієї пам'ятки раніше не було завантажено.

Нагадаємо, що всі фотографії автоматично беруть участь у номінації «За найбільшу кількість сфотографованих пам’яток»; однак для того, щоб фото позмагалося у номінації «Найкраще фото», потрібно підтвердити це при завантаженні.

Цього року вперше будуть окремо виділені фото з повітря (дронами, квадрокоптерами тощо) — у спеціальній номінації «Аерофото». Для того, щоб робота потрапила на спецномінацію потрібно вибрати її у Завантажувачі.

Також вперше проводиться спеціальна номінація «Пам'ятки Подесення», знову пройдуть спецномінації «Відео», «Єврейська спадщина», «Млини», «Пам'ятки національно-визвольної боротьби» та «Via Regia Ukraine». Для участі світлин у цих спецномінаціях не потрібно обирати нічого у Завантажувачі — світлини зараховуватимуться автоматично з відповідних списків.

Важливо! Цього року відбулася адміністративно-територіальна реформа. Однак, ми проводимо конкурс ще за попереднім адміністративно-територіальним устроєм. Ми почали роботу над створенням списків з новим поділом, але вона ще не є завершена. Ви можете користуватися тими новими списками, що вже є, якщо потрібно відшукати пам'ятку за новим поділом (деякі ОДА вже почали присилати у такому форматі), але пам'ятайте, що нові списки ще не є повними.

Привіт!

Нагадуємо, що до 30 вересня включно можна вантажити світлини та відео культурної спадщини України до національного етапу міжнародного фотоконкурсу «Вікі любить пам'ятки»!

Зараз Україна посідає 3-є місце за кількістю завантажених світлин, поступаючись Російській Федерації та Німеччині. За першу половину місяця було завантажено світлини пам'яток із усіх регіонів України, але частина із них є дуже погано представлена. Севастополь зараз представлений тільки однією пам'яткою і одним фото, Крим — 12 пам'яток і 51 фото. Детальніше — у таблиці:

Цього року у конкурсі є вісім спеціальних номінацій:
