Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
  • You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
  • To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
  • You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
  • There are several tools to upload files.
  • Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.
Made a mistake?
  • Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
  • Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Sentinel Image Request - Cluj-Napoca[edit]

Hello, @Satview: I was wondering if you could add a Sentinel-2 image for the city of Cluj-Napoca, Romania (46.769, 23.589). I'm not familiar with Sentinel data and I couldn't find a guide on how to create images like the ones you've been uploading. I'm currently in the process of expanding the Romanian version of the article and the image would be very helpful in rounding out the Geography section. Image request[edit]

Hi, I noticed that you have uploaded many Sentinel satellite images for different regions around the world. Since I know absolutely nothing about the website, I was wondering if you are able to upload an image of Vancouver Island and an additional image of the Salish Sea (similar to this one right here). Since this one is from 20 years ago, I think it would be beneficial to have a more recent image for the project. Thank you. Nkon21 (talk) 16:32, 29 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Nkon21: I've searched the area and it cloud be a very large scale for Sentinel-2 imagery. So it will take some time for me to pick up a cloudless day, download corresponding datasets on that day, process them and upload the final image. @Nkon21: After reviewing and testing hundreds of Sentinel-2 dataset around this region, unfortunately there are no appropriate images. They are either: cloudy, bad atmospheric condition (smoke/haze), good weather but with no orbit coverage (or just part of it). So I turned to low-res meteorology satellite images. And here's one on the right. It was taken by MODIS sensor on NASA's Aqua satellite with 250m resolution. For the 10m-high-res Sentinel-2 image, I'll mark this in my watch list. So once we have suitable image in the future, I'll upload it and message you. Hope it would help you. If you need anything else, feel free to contact me again. Sentinel[edit]

Hello! I happened to see the image above from Cluj Napoca and it is lovely. Do you think you could help me with a picture for a hill? It is at the position 46°15′48.95″ N 26°45′13.69″ E, the surface that is required is this: https://www.google.com/maps/@46.2701294,26.748058,3166m/data=!3m1!1e3

Hi @Kun Kipcsak: I've looked into this area and unluckily it's just a hill so Sentinel-2 could only give us a small picture, due to its 10m resolution. Google uses commercial satellites with higher resolution (even 0.3m) than thoses scientific satellites like Sentinel-2. Anyway I'll post the photo here so that you can choose whether to use it. Hi Cyclonetracker7586, it's done. I got two pics here. Just pick what you need.
One is original 10m-resolution File:Metro Detroit by Sentinel-2, 2021-09-06 (big version).jpg but also wtih larger file size,
