Autopatrol given[edit]

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you.—레비Revi 18:40, 25 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Saqib, in the above file you have forgotten to insert one of these two things:

  1. reference to the original picture
  2. description of the subject

I've noticed because I need the description to insert into the image caption. --Andyrom75 (talk) 21:42, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Saqib, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:

  • Use the CommonsDelinker link in the {{Rename}} template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
  • Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
  • Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

Thanks Nahid, I wonder if I can get rollback rights too? --Saqib (talk) 15:46, 19 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Generally rights are handed out when they are required and you don't need rollback right for the purpose you mentioned in your RFR. And also I don't see a single "undo" in your latest contributions besides some of your own mistakes. A little more vandal-fighting would be a useful demonstration of your ability to use the rollback tool correctly and effectively here on Commons. But these are only my personal thinking, you can always request the right at COM:RFR. Cheers and again welcome :) ~ Nahid Talk 15:56, 19 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Saqib, thanks for your application to be an image reviewer. The application has been removed as successful, and you've been added to the list of reviewers. You can review all kind of image licenses on Commons. Please see Commons:License review and Commons:Flickr files if you haven't done so already. We also have a guide how to detect copyright violations. Backlogs include Flickr review, Picasa review, Panoramio review, and files from other sources. You can use one of the following scripts by adding one of the lines to your common.js:

importScript('User:ZooFari/licensereviewer.js'); // stable script for reviewing images from any kind of source OR
importScript('User:Rillke/LicenseReview.js'); // contains also user notification when review fails, auto blacklist-check and auto-thank you message for Flickr-reviews.

You can also add {{User reviewer}} or {{User trusted}} to your user page if you wish. Thank you for your contributions on Commons! --Steinsplitter (talk) 19:29, 21 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

STOP Vandalism on my talk page[edit]

Dear Saqib,

You have been vandalizing my talk page since you undo my edit without my permission, you should know that you should not suppose to undo sometimes edits on their talk pages, since its called user and user talk page vandalism and you should learn to respect senior contributors here and you should assume good faith on another user. I hope with the good remarks that you would regret this act and STOP vandalizing others talk page.--Faizanalivarya (talk) 15:56, 23 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Counter Vandalism Unit

Hi Saqib,

You now have the Patroller right and may call yourself a patroller! Please take a moment to read the updated Commons:Patrol to learn how Patrolling works and how we use it to fight vandalism.

As you know already, the patrolling functionality is enabled for all edits, not just for new-page creations. This enables us to keep track of, for example, edits made by anonymous users here on Commons.

We could use your help at the Counter Vandalism Unit. For example by patrolling an Anonymous-edits checklist and checking a day-part.

If you have any questions please leave a message on the CVU talkpage or ask for help on IRC in #wikimedia-commons.

Four "Missing Permissions" converted to DNs[edit]

Greetings: I converted several of your "missing permissions" to DN's because I was unable to figure out why you thought the images didn't have permissions.

Please take a moment to comment on each of the above explaining why you felt the images had no permissions despite claims of "own work" by uploaders, no contradictory metadata and no identical images on Google Image Search. Thank you. Ellin Beltz (talk) 16:39, 17 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Saqib In future, please take the time to create a Deletion Nomination instead of for "no permission" based only on suspicion. You need some actual reason to put "no permission" not just assumptions. Ellin Beltz (talk) 15:20, 18 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sure Ellin Beltz, I've converted many "no permission" files which I tagged recently, into "deletion nominations". --Saqib (talk) 16:19, 18 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, much appreciated. DNs are for the community to figure out suspicious images collectively; "missing permission" and of course "speedy" are for clear-cut, unambiguous situations! Thank you for your understanding! Ellin Beltz (talk) 21:04, 18 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
One more thing about "speedies"... if you say you found the image "on the web" please be so kind as to include the URL, there's no reason for the admins to have to repeat the search to verify your speedy deletion nomination. Ellin Beltz (talk) 17:35, 20 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ellin Beltz, I usually provide the URL when marking a file for speedy deletion but when I came across a user who upload too many copyright images, I prefer to perform batch task rather than individually mark each image because its very time consuming. Recently, I came across a guy who uploaded some 40 copyvio and it took my 20 minutes so individually mark each and every image one by one. Well I could patrol many more files If I had simply perform a batch task but anyways. --Saqib (talk) 07:46, 23 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I too mark them one by one, but I always include the URL of the found on web. Don't be in such a hurry to change the world that you forget to provide sufficient information for the deleting admins. I've found some "missing permissions" which may very well not have been, and now some speedies from you with no source to show where they came from provided in the speedy nomination. I think you're going too fast and missing the point. You nominate for deletion, no permission, no license or speedy as an assist to the admins who will actually process the image. Giving "on the web" without saying from where the image was found isn't helpful because then the admin has to repeat your search and may or may not find what you found in the first place. This isn't a video game where "most edit counts" equals the winner - but a collaborative project where we assume good faith COM:AGF of all uploaders unless proven otherwise. It's the proof part that you need to provide in your nominations. Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 18:48, 23 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ellin Beltz, Oh let me clarify you I'm not doing all this to increase my edit counts. I'm volunteering for WLM Pakistan and that's why reviewing all the photos submitted from Pakistan and once the competition over (September 30th) you won't see me active here anymore so yes I assuming good faith. Also, I don't mark an image for speedy unless the user has previously uploaded copyright photos or unless the photo is on web but Google Images search is not reliable source to do investigation and if sometime it fails to detect even photos that are copied from web. Anyways, I'll try to go slow down now if you think I'm too fast. --Saqib (talk) 19:12, 23 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Please only mark the ones of which you are sure, and please always provide the url of the alleged copyright violation for speedies. "On the web" is insufficient for a speedy deletion as you are just making another editor/admin follow your work around and clean up after. Go as fast or as slow as you want, but don't go so fast that your quality suffers. Ellin Beltz (talk) 19:02, 24 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Saqib[edit]

you should nominate the WLM-pictures from Pakistan not in QI (you know, this is sometimes battle area for betterknower), but for valued pictures. Unfortunately, in my opinion, they are all not passing the quality standard. --Hubertl (talk) 08:22, 25 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Hubertl, I'm really surprised why all are declining. All top-10 photos were selected by some talented photographers some of whom are administrators on Commons. --Saqib (talk) 08:25, 25 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The motives are perfect, but not the quality! WLM-decisions refer much more to motives than to quality. The one, which was promoted, have both. --Hubertl (talk) 12:07, 25 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

QI candidates[edit]

Hello! IMO it's the best way to use the discussion within the QI list or the QI discussion. The decision of the WLM jury is different from QI (or Featured Pictures). WLM looks for good pictures of monuments, QI respectects the QI guidelines. Some of my images reached the Top 100 of the WLM (in Germany), but they are not QI. Your images have a good composition. May be they can be prepared well for QI. Do you use RAW images? With the RAW image a lot of problems can be fixed or improved. You can try to fix the problems and change from "decline" to "discuss". Or you can renominate your fixed image. Please have a look to all the other reviews. The most of the images are declined. The problems are initially getting a little bigger, but I wish you many good photos! --XRay talk 06:13, 26 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion Pakistan images[edit]

Hi Saqib, I am failing to see the reason for your speedy deletion requests for this series of images (apart maybe for their terrible quality?): https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:%D8%B9%D8%AB%D9%85%D8%A7%D9%86_%D8%AE%D8%A7%D9%86_%D8%B4%D8%A7%DB%81 Could you be maybe a little more explicit? Thanks! notafish }<';> 21:39, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

notafish: The uploader has made it clear on his user talk page that the photos that I nominated for deletion were not his own but of his friends'. He referred a link to FB page but I see nowhere a statement where the copyright holder explictly mentioned that photos are released under CC BY SA or giving the Commons uploader rights to release them under CC BY SA. Other than that, all the photos available on that FB page are look like taken from web and belongs to others. --Saqib (talk) 11:57, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I missed the conversation, sorry about that. The whole "taken from the web and belong to others" however, was not all that clear to me, as the Google Search for identical images is far from reliable, I found. But thanks for clarifying! notafish }<';> 12:47, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Saqib its ok. I always try to avoid photos which has copyright issues. but the Photos you deleted or nominated to be deleted, have no copyright Issue, Those photos are permitted to be used,so Plz restore them. :) Thank--Usman (talk) 21:17, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Query regarding the image 2 Rohtas Fort by Hassan.jpg[edit]

Hello Saqib, This is regarding the image 2 Rohtas Fort by Hassan.jpg. Permissions question[edit]

I processed a permission statement for images uploaded by User:Sw71rh. It seems straightforward. That was followed by a permission statement for some deleted images, some of which seem straightforward but one of which is File:Oath Taking.png. I understand it may be difficult to re-create because the image has been deleted but I wanted to check to see if you could share anything? --Sphilbrick (talk) 22:27, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Reminder: Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2016 is open![edit]

You are receiving this message because you voted in R1 of the 2016 Picture of the Year contest.

Dear Saqib,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2016 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eleventh edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2016) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

Thanks for uploading File:Logo of National Assembly of Pakistan.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Logo of National Assembly of Pakistan.jpg]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

Dear Saqib Qayyum I am a Prof. in Architecture and I am currently redacting a book titled “History of Interior Design and Furniture” and it will be published in Turkish edition. I would like to use your image from https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Panoramic_view_of_the_stupa_mound_and_great_bath_in_Mohenjodaro.JPG. Queries[edit]

Hi. So I’ve just noticed that the images I find keep being taken down for copyright purposes. I have a few queries on this 1. How do I differentiate between uncopyrighted and copyrighted material if there is no clear watermark on the image? 2. If an image is freely licensed, how do I find out 3. If you crop an image or edit it, can I upload that under fair use? Thanks, and I will in the future be careful not to upload copyrighted images... Masterpha (talk) 09:09, 14 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Masterpha: No matter if an image has a watermark or not, it is considered copyright unless the copyright holder of that image explicitly states to release it under CC BY license. Don't look at watermarks on the images, but at the license of the image. You can upload images under a fair use only on Wikipedia, not here on Commons. Why don't you take a moment to read Commons:Copyright rules. --Saqib (talk) 09:17, 14 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Saqib, Where there are no finalists from Pakistan yet in https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2018_winner although Pakistan was also participating in this competition. Is there any reason? Template:07:46, 16 November 2018

WLE lists[edit]

Hi, please add a link to the list of sites here. --AnnaKhrobolova (WMUA) (talk) 10:14, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@AnnaKhrobolova (WMUA): , we don't have lists of sites and we've been doing WLE for the past several years without any lists. --Saqib (talk) 10:17, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
How you know then that submitted pictures are of protected areas? Or how participants can understand what you want them to photograph? There is list of national parks in Pakistan. Why not to use them? All countries use lists. It`s really strage you don`t even try to set them. Would you like to try? --AnnaKhrobolova (WMUA) (talk) 14:16, 30 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Categorization of WLE Pakistan entries[edit]

Hi Saqib, I noticed that lots of entries to the WLE Pakistan competion are added to categories that are far too general, like Category:Landscapes, Category:Pakistan or Category:Nature. I'm asking myself if it's possible to add a link to Commons:FAQ#How do I best categorize my own pictures? somewhere in the upload process. Or at least tell the uploaders that Category:Landscapes of Pakistan is much better than a combination of Category:Landscapes and Category:Pakistan? Important message for file movers[edit]

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

  • To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
  • To perform file name swaps.
  • When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:36, 7 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hyderabad-related question[edit]

Hi, Saqib -- I'm not sure, but maybe you could help me. I have doubt, if this picture and this one really show Tombs of Talpur Mirs. As you can see on any other file from the category, taken on different years, the buildings' condition in reality is very much worse than this and there are only few tiles left on the walls. Also, I cannot recall antenna masts in the background. Might it be a replica or an other, very similar building? Thanks! --A.Savin 17:52, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Category discussion warning

Other temples, Bhodesar has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!
