Bad SVGs[edit]

I'll make a script create a list of all svgs, including date. You'll find that in your inbox tonight or tommorrow. I would advise to set up a bot account, and have a bot add a template, or category to indicate that those images should be deleted. If you don't know how to create a bot, you can also send me the list, and I can have a bot add the template/category. -- Bryan (talk to me) 16:57, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The list is on <http://tools.wikimedia.de/~bryan/svg.txt> (4 MB). It is tab separated: <timestamp>\t<name>\t<path>. The files can be downloaded from http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/<path>/<name>. I think by the way that most problematic svgs are those from 2007. -- Bryan (talk to me) 17:23, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Bryan. I downloaded the file OK. -- Sakurambo 11:06, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and thank your for sharing your files with Commons. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. Please remember that all uploads require source, author and license information. Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above? Thank you. --Siebrand 12:37, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Sakurambo.

The image you have made is just great. I would appreciate if you could provide me with a version in portuguese. The traslation would be: Corona = Coroa, Photosphere = Fotosfera, Radiation zone = Zona de radiação, Core = Núcleo, Convection zone = Zona de convecção, Chromosphere = Cromosfera.

Thank you, Fabio azevedo 03:07, 12 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No problem: -- Sakurambo 08:00, 12 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Sakuramo. That's great. Thank you very much, Fabio azevedo (talk) 18:05, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image re-use[edit]

Hi,

May I use your image (at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:3D_coordinate_system.svg) in my research paper.

Thanks.

Of course you can :-)
You don't even need to ask permission. All you have to do is follow the instructions for re-using content outside Wikimedia. -- Sakurambo ( ) 10:21, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image:3D coordinate system.svg[edit]

Please have a look at Image talk:3D coordinate system.svg. Thank you. :-) --RokerHRO (talk) 16:54, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to use your image but in a much large form factor 14" X 14". Do you have it in a vector format? If so would be you able to send it to me or post it ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jnappa (talk • contribs) 19:08, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Which image? 3D coordinate system.svg? This is already in a vector format. -- Sakurambo (talk) 22:15, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Barber pole[edit]

You had made an animation of a barber pole, which I liked and inserted in wikt:barber pole. The animation seemed a little distracting. What does it take to: 1a. make the animation user initiated and 1b. make it easy for the user to initiate OR 2. allow the user to stop the animation. The 1a/b option seems better. Thanks for your thoughts (at your convenience). DCDuring (talk) 18:58, 3 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid GIF animations like this always start automatically. If you find them distracting, you can always stop the animation by pressing the ESCAPE key on your keyboard. Does that help? -- Sakurambo (talk) 20:05, 3 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Sakurambo~commonswiki!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

SVGbot[edit]

Hey Sakurambo,

do u have any intentions putting the bot back to use. The last time it run is quite a while back, so the results contain a lot of already fixed/deleted images & since then more bad SVG might have been uploaded--DieBuche (talk) 10:59, 29 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, this is something I've been meaning to do for a while now but haven't got round to it yet. I'll try to get something working again some day soon, but I should be able to help out with the programming if you'd like to get your own bot up and running. -- Sakurambo (talk) 11:56, 29 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thx. I got basic php skills & my own bot (DieBucheBot) running, so if i could have the code you used, i should get a bot up & running. --DieBuche (talk) 16:28, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Cape Colony Flag[edit]

The lice type for your version of the flag of the Cape Colony is incorrect. Please use

Public domain This work was first published in South Africa and is now in the public domain because its copyright protection has expired by virtue of the Copyright Act No. 98 of 1978, amended 2002. The work meets one of the following criteria:
 • It is an anonymous work or pseudonymous work and 50 years have passed since the date of its publication.
 • It is a broadcast or sound recording and 50 years have passed since the year the programme was published.
 • It is a cinematographic or photographic work and 50 years have passed since the date of its creation.
 • It is an artistic, literary or musical work created under the direction of the state or an international organization and 50 years have passed since the year the work was published.
 • It is another kind of work, and 50 years have passed since the year of death of the author (or last-surviving author).

A South African work that is in the public domain in South Africa according to this rule is in the public domain in the U.S. only if it was in the public domain in South Africa in 1996, e.g. if it was published before 1946 and no copyright was registered in the U.S. (This is the effect of 17 USC 104A with its critical date of January 1, 1996.)

File:Orbital_engine_patent_drawing.jpeg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Morihei.gif, was missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. The file probably has been deleted. If you've got all required information, request undeletion providing this information and the link to the concerned file (:File:Morihei.gif).

If you created the content yourself, enter Own as the source. If you did not add a licensing template, you must add one. You may use, for example, GFDL or Cc-zero to release certain rights to your work.

If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. Thanks for uploading File:Veg sausages beans.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.
