Great work[edit]

Hi, I noticed you are quite busy organizing climbing photos and adding great new ones. I was thinking, that your job would be much easier if you use HotCat and Cat-a-lot gadgets. Also each time I organize those images I end up adding many categories, so if you need to feel free. If you have any questions or need help - let me know. --Jarekt (talk) 04:12, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Licenserevie[edit]

Hello Rotpunkt!

Can you please insert this little tag {{Licensereview}} below the license tag especially for image from [1]? Would be great! Because of this tag other users can check the used license so that this image is "watertight" forever here. Thank you! Regards, High Contrast (talk) 19:38, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Crimea[edit]

Hi Rotpunkt - re File:Rock climbing in Crimea 1.jpg, File:Rock climbing in Crimea 2.jpg, Crimea is in Ukraine, not Russia ;-) I've undone the categorisation for now as I couldn't find a more specific category for rock-climbing in Ukraine, but if you can find a better category (or create a new one), then please do. - MPF (talk) 09:41, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Cateogories[edit]

Hi
I agree with you that the organisation of categories is not completly clear. I'm not sure the 3 categories (lead, speed and boulder) are not necessary a subdivision of a competitions. While editing the french article about climbing i was looking for pictures about this 3 categories regardless of relation with competitions. I even think that corresponding categories for outdoor climbing could be interesting.
btw, beside this question, why the categorie concerning world championships 2012 should be a subdivision of the 3 type of indoor climbing?
i'm ready to ask to change the name of the 3 categories for the lowercase. but what else should we do to improve the organisation?
(please note that my english could be not totally correct and i'm not generally interested in the categories work - but i agree that there is work to do about this here).
--Absinthologue (talk) 17:09, 19 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I just said that "the names" aren't correct, the existence of the categories is ok. The right names are:
and these three categories should be child of Category:Climbing competitions not of Category:Indoor climbing. We can do faster creating the new categories and requesting the deletion of the old ones. I can do it if you want. Cya. --Rotpunkt (talk) 19:56, 19 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is what I mean:

Climbing competitions
Lead climbing competitions
Climbing World Championships 2012
World cup Kranj
Bouldering competitions
Boulder Worldcup Munich 2012‎
Boulder Worldcup Vienna 2010‎
Speed climbing competitions
Climbing World Championships 2012

Because there is just 1 category Category:Climbing World Championships 2012 with all disciplines (not the boulder) put it in both "Lead climbing competitions" and "Speed climbing competitions" (another way is to create subcategories "Climbing World Championships 2012 (lead)" and "Climbing World Championships 2012 (speed)" but we don't care by now). It's always better to have categories inside categories instead of images in a lot of different categories. --Rotpunkt (talk) 20:21, 19 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In fact i don't see the real interest of changing categories from, for example, Category:Indoor lead climbing to Category:Lead climbing competitions. For pictures i have taken during the 2012 WC, i think that relating it to 2 categories (indoor climbing and 2012 WC) is more interesting than only one (2012 WC in climbing competition). If i try to find pictures of indoor climbing, i'm not obliged to look in all competitions for it...
But if you prefer transfer categories from indoor lead climbing to lead climbing competitions, i think we should moreover create a category lead climbing (for indoor and outdoor or for both) ; i think it should apply for such picture.
--Absinthologue (talk) 10:46, 20 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ok i totally agree with your new organisation. In fact i don't find that categories always fit my needs, and so it's why i don't pay attention to it (except when one categories miss for my contributions Clin ).

Autopatrol given[edit]

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. Morning (talk) 10:39, 22 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Climbing holds[edit]

Hello,
I've a new problem with categories :-) . I've uploaded some pictures in Category:Climbing holds for the french article. But i see that the holds are in Category:Climbing equipment. How to solve this problem when we know that climbing holds can be either artificial (use on a wall) or natural (found on a cliff) ??
Thanks in advance.
--Absinthologue (talk) 10:23, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Leave me some time for checking. AFAIK in italian we use "presa" or "presa artificiale" only for artificial hold, otherwise we use "appiglio" it:Appiglio (arrampicata). Also french "prise d'escalade" AFAIK is only artificial (just try this: http://www.google.it/search?hl=it&q=prise+d'escalade&tbm=isch). Before doing anything I would check on climbing manuals which is the correct terminology. Cya. --Rotpunkt (talk) 11:32, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I will double check, however it seems that "presa d'arrampicata", "prise d'escalade", "climbing hold" refers to artificial hold, instead just "presa", "prise" and "hold" refers to both natural and artificial. Surely I will double check this with references that I will write here. --Rotpunkt (talk) 11:47, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
In french it's true that if we say "prise d'escalade", we imply artifical hold. But it's normal to say "use this hold" ("utilise cette prise") either for indoor or outdoor. Maybe i should correct the french article for something like Prise (escalade) instead of Prise d'escalade. We can also use Préhension but it's not really a specific meaning for climbing.
I've just type "climbing hold" in google images and it's seems that in english it's only for artificial hold... How could we do ? Is it possible to do one category in french which refers to 2 categories in english ?
--Absinthologue (talk) 12:38, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Examples of "prise d'escalade":
Examples of just "prise": http://www.grimpavranches.com/les-plus/lexique/
IMHO a solid solution woud be (say if you agree):
  • create a new "Holds (climbing)" category (child of climbing) with inside two categories:
  • "Natural climbing holds"
  • "Artificial climbing holds" (child also of "Climbing equipment)

--Rotpunkt (talk) 12:39, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, let's do that. It is possible for Category:Artificial climbing holds to be child of Category:Climbing and Category:Climbing equipments which is also a child of Category:Climbing ? There is no problem of double categorization ?
--Absinthologue (talk) 12:44, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you to have done the job to rename the category. I'm happy because now i know how to create categories, rename it, ... If i have a doubt i'll discuss with you and i'll be able to do the work alone :-). See you (PS : it's true, it's not easy to know have a normal discussion here...) --Absinthologue (talk) 09:50, 15 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Hi there, although it wasn't required, I do appreciate your help with your categorising of images in Category:Files from McKay Savage Flickr stream. As you have probably noticed, I have been uploading high value images from around the world from Flickr, and I have over 13,000 to go thru and categorise and cleanup, etc, so your help with this is much appreciated. Cheers, russavia (talk) 22:32, 1 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
