Hello, Rochelimit!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

The worst kind of people in Wikipedia[edit]

Are those who deletes old pictures with stupendous reasoning I will not write here. Samples: Russavia, Dharmadhyaksha, Tekstman.--Rochelimit (talk) 17:17, 13 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Very sad not being able to upload photos of Indonesian building, however[edit]

Thanks for the information sir! Unfortunately only one image I ever upload to Wikipedia Bahasa Indonesia, a picture of Pertamina head office. I would say that the Indonesian chapter of Wikimedia seems to never taking so-called "building panorama restriction" problem in Indonesia seriously, like many other region-specific Wikimedia.

To made it worse, I no longer contribute at Commons due to such ridiculous and stupid restriction, while my car spotting routine began to wane...... Sabung.hamster (talk) 07:44, 23 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, really sad Sabung.hamster. In fact you can see my previous posts just above, how ridiculous the reasoning behind the image deletion. They can even decide to delete pictures of Jakarta from the 1970s, officially uploaded by Tropenmuseum!?? How ridiculous is that!? That's just bad! and the worst thing is, these users who decided to report and delete pictures, are barely weeks in Commons, some are probably just kids meddling around!
However, don't let the restriction upset you because, yes, Indonesian wikipedia ignores the building panorama restriction, that's a good thing. So you may upload everything (of good quality) to Wikipedia Indonesia instead and wait (years?) until they lifted the restriction, and then all the pics will be automatically transferred to common.
The main point of Wikipedia is free knowledge for everyone, and by uploading your pictures, you are contributing knowledge to everybody. These Common users who delete good quality neutral pictures for the sake of regulation are plainly the worst kind of users in Wikimedia.--Rochelimit (talk) 15:50, 23 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I agree about the so-called Panorama restriction, Rochelimit. I felt they are taking copyright regulation too seriously, while in same time architects in Indonesia rarely care about his work being photographed and being shared en masse through Internet or books, and photographers who don't know that photographing buildings simply infringes architect's right. Not forget to mention Wikimedia Indonesia being lazy about FoP problem like I mention before.
The deletion on Tropenmuseum uploads for same reason, I agree only for images subjected to statues and buildings, because it is simply a plain stupid.
For me, the only way to stop this mess is, 1. upload images on Indonesian Wikipedia, and 2. meddling with legislator to renew the 2013 Copyright law, in order to add the emphasis of "fully free depiction of buildings, statues and craftsman's work located at public premises". For this reason, I stick on Flickr for new images of buildings, regardless. Sabung.hamster (talk) 08:58, 24 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2017 is open![edit]

You are receiving this message because you voted in R1 of the 2017 Picture of the Year contest, but not yet in R2.

Dear Rochelimit,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2017 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the twelfth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2017) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1475 candidate images. There are 58 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top 2 from each sub-category.

In the final round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2017.

Round 2 will end on 22 July 2018, 23:59 UTC.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee 11:33, 17 July 2018 (UTC)
