First steps tutorial

Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
  • You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
  • To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
  • You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
  • There are several tools to upload files.
  • Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.
Made a mistake?
  • Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
  • Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Hello Ellin, hope that I have not responded in the wrong place or too many times, the images in question I created and own, when I uploaded the files I thought I had marked "own work". Click the link above where it says to go to the discussion and provide information about the architectural drawings and basemaps. How came you to do all this work singlehandedly? Who took the photos which are in the backgrounds of all the images? Why are all these images relevant to the project? The images were drawn using CADD, text was added and they were printed and distributed in the 1990s. I had an ownership interest in the land on which the cross-border terminal was suppose to be built in 1990 (Martinez Ranch), but then the City of San Diego wanted to build a "bi-national" airport (TwinPorts) and my project was placed on hold (Tijuana cross-border terminal). The images containing pictures (of the airport rendering) were taken by airplane, the airport images were then physically painted on the pictures and then duplicated, I created and produced the pictures and renderings in order to try to save my project (the Tijuana cross-border terminal) I wrote the reports (reference 16 in the Tijuana cross-border terminal article you will note U.S. copyright TX number 489 448 from 1991 Key Issues TwinPort/ASA Proposals). Gilberto Valenzuela, the Minister of Public Works of Mexico (1964-1970) who built the Tijuana airport was a personal friend on mine, as was Rodolfo Ramos Ortiz, founder of Aero Charter, who lived two houses from me. I not only did the drawing and rendering but also wrote the counter-proposals, organized the delegation trips to Mexico and I was the source for this project for the City of San Diego and the San Diego Union Tribune (newspaper) in San Diego, was featured on KUSI News twice and my images were aired on television, presented the project before the U.S. State Department on February 22, 2002 (Partnership for Prosperity), I did a massive amount of unpaid work trying to keep the project alive for 18 years. All this work was reviewed by the San Diego Reader, also referenced in the Wikipedia article. The importance images in the article is that they show how the project evolved, what the Mexican government wanted vs what is actually today being built (my proposal) and how that happened, the complex political issues that affected the project from immigration to NAFTA. Creating and building the Tijuana cross-border terminal was more than cutting a hole in the U.S.-Mexico fence. That is why it took 18 years. The Wall Street Journal article that features my work was published August 1, 2001 ( Millman, Joe "San Diego Airport May Cross Border"). What can I specifically supply? The images and drawing were done 20 years ago, please let me know what will happen to the images.
