Hello, Ringpicker!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Cycas rumphii[edit]

You ask for using this pic. tell for what. its ok. --BotBln (talk) 12:59, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
For me its fine if my Wikipedia-pics are used for Plant-Books. I like Cycadales very much, so i take pics when ever i see any species. I have never been in Australia, so i dont have lot of pics of Australian Plants. But the Botanical Gardens Berlin got a lot of Australian Species and i take pics there. Of Cycas rumphii the Botanical Gardens Berlin have really a lot (more than 20) of really old Plants, i think most of them have same Age. Now some of them got new Place and male and female flower very close together, so i hope this time they will get good seeds. I travelled to South Africa last year and take lot of pics of very much Encephalartos-Species. (but thats not for a book of Australian plants ;-) ). So tell me what you need - what i have to write that print of the pic is allowed. i think all rights of my Wikipedia-pics are ok for printing them. bye. --BotBln (talk) 14:56, 5 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Purslane Image[edit]

Hydrocotyle[edit]

Hi! You asked me, because you want to make use of File:Hydrocotyle_bonariensis.jpg. I am happy, if this photo is useful. You may give the attribution "Franz Xaver (Wikimedia Commons)". Franz Xaver is a my first name, and I think this should be enough.

As this photo is a scan of a diapositive, the quality is modest. Now I have got a better scanner and have started to re-upload the images of my scanned diapositives. I will do this Hydrocotyle during the next days. Anyway, you may be interested, there is another image File:100 4990.jpg that possibly also shows H. bonariensis. I found it within the unidentified photos two weeks ago. Identity still has to be checked. Regards --Franz Xaver (talk) 20:50, 17 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Erythroxylum australe bush[edit]

Notification about reusing to User:Rillke[edit]

Hi Ringpicker, thanks for notifying me that one of the photos I took will be reused in a pharmaceutical book. When reusing GFDL works or CC-By-SA works make sure, you comply with the remaining terms of the license (e.g. you have to mention that you make use of the photos using this license); I won't start any legal action as long as I am properly attributed but other users may. More information are available at Commons:Reusing content outside Wikimedia. Category:Dioscorea mexicana contains more photos of the plant in question (My colleague Amada44 photographed the same plant in Basel Botanical Garden). It's nice to see that Commons can help illustrating such a book. Kind regards -- Rillke(q?) 20:22, 24 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
